Submarine museum in Melaka

Read about the Submarine museum in Melaka so decided to have a look since I am interested in nautical stuff. The museum is located at Pantai Klebang area.

Entrance fee was RM5.

 

 

Never gotten the chance to visit the submarine in SG. So now is the chance to see a real submarine and the tight spaces inside. Not a very big submarine but sufficient to see the cramp quarters inside.

 

 

 

 

 

There are two decommissioned fighter jets on site too.

 

 

 

 

 

As you enter the bow, its the torpedo space. There are sleeping bunks above.

I thought Malaysia have submarine but once down in the water, it stay there forever

so is that the one I'm referring to?

There were bus loads of malaysians visiting but as you can see from my interior photos, no ppl one. Not much ppl interested in the interior workings of a submarine. Most ppl just take photo of the exterior only. They dont bother climbing the stairs and visit the interior.

 

 

Really nice to see one in real life. It is the one and only one here in SEA. RSN should do something like that for the decommissioned ships and submarine.

Last Dec we went to Perth for holidays, and visited the maritime museum there. It showed a lot of the boats and yacht, esp. the times when Aust won the dunno what world title(s). Quite interesting actually.

 

Have you been there before, as it's quite in line with your interest?

 

And besides it was a submarine on display and it has got tour package too. Unfortunately we were there only for about 2 hr, and there was not enough time to go for the submarine tour - besides, my parents were with us and it was impossible to expect my mother to climb that type of steps so we didn't go for it.

 

My son was very keen on it, and kept persuading us to go...

 

Maybe can think of going for this one in Malacca instead at some point.

Probably America's Cup ? It was funded by local boy Alan Bond and the winning yacht was on display at Fremantle I think. The win was quite a big deal to both Western Australia and Australia.

Jokes aside. I saw a documentary(HistoryCh) on modern submarine stealth technology. They say that the old type of impeller like the one we see in the above pic is very noisy. The noise comes from the air bubbles formed on the blades' surface area when there's pressure or when the impeller is spinning. And when the air bubbles pop that's where the most noise come from.

To counter the problem they reduce the size of the suface area of the blades and at the same time increase the number of blades.

Probably constructed using simulated bronz on plastic. Real bronz keep in a saferer place.

This was just a training submarine for Malaysia. Same as SG, the very first submarine from Sweden was also just a training sub. To get the guys familiar with these WWII subs and play around see how to "climatised" them to warmer waters here in SEA. So the technology of these subs were outdated in today's context.

I dont know. Was never interested in those fighter jets. My focus was the Submarine.
