I have gone to both 安溪 and 永春 in Fujian, because my father's family is from 安溪, while my mom's family is from 永春. Both 县 are next to each other. I like Fujian because of the food there, and they are so cheap! At RMB 10, we can have a big bowl of rice with a meat dish. Their oyster omelette, peanut soup, taro balls, braised beef, pork belly, street snacks are all yummy. I'm also very surprised that their street food hawkers allow mobile payment. Hopefully will go back again soon. I have a small business at Shanghai and spend some of my time there. Shanghai is fantastic. My father side is from 新会 while my mother side is from 鹤山, both in Guangdong. I've also followed my folks back to see the old houses and relatives who still live there. My mother's side house is very run-down as noone has been taking care of it, while my father's side one has just been turned into a mini local museum of sort, by the Govt, to commemorate my late grandfather's patriotism. My father has been asking me to go and take a look, as it hasn't been converted yet when i last went in 2012. Food wise, China is known to eat anything that has 4 legs. I remember during my first trip in 1995, i was told - after a meal - that i'd eaten worms, rabbit and ... dog meat!!! RMB10 for rice with meat is cheap leh. Now still got so cheap? I've been to Beijing, 避暑山庄,九寨沟,峨眉山,长江三峡 (before it was flooded),深圳,but last trip was in 2012, before the mobile payment got started. But i remember that even on my first trip there is 1995, i saw more Lexus LS460 in Guangdong than in SG, so i was already quite impressed with China. I'm sure in Shanghai it's far more advanced than anything i can imagine now. In fact, just spoke to wife that we should bring the kids to go to Beijing sometime in the future, to look at the Great Wall. But must avoid China peak period - no joke that... 😅 ↡ Advertisement

inlinesix Hypersonic March 28, 2020 Share March 28, 2020 The following message purportedly spread by Chen Ping, Yang Kuang TV boss, on wechat. It is banned now. http://www.mychinese.news/2020/03/blog-post_15.html Quote 👍 In view of the current severe situation of the new crown epidemic, the domestic economy and the severe situation of international relations, it is strongly called for the urgent convening of an enlarged Politburo meeting to discuss Xi Jinping's issue. The Politburo Enlarged Conference includes current members and members of the Politburo, past members of the Politburo Standing Committee, deputy prime ministers and above, current and former presidents of the Supreme Court, current and former prosecutors of the Supreme People's Procuratorate, current and former NPC chairpersons, and vice members The current and previous CPPCC Chairman and Vice-Chairmen participated. The meeting discussed whether Xi Jinping's merit evaluation since he took office is suitable for continuing to serve as the chairman of the country, general secretary of the Communist Party, and chairman of the military commission. Given that Xi Jinping himself was the party involved in the meeting, he should not hold any position in the meeting. It is suggested that Li Keqiang, Wang Yang and Wang Qishan should form the Politburo Enlarged Meeting Leadership Group to take charge of the work of the meeting. The emergency Politburo enlargement meeting should discuss whether Xi Jinping's diplomatic line and foreign policy since he came to power, and whether it should be clear to return to the obscurity line proposed by Comrade Deng Xiaoping. Discuss Has China's international relations and international environment improved or worsened since Xi Jinping came to power? Building enemies on all sides and deteriorating US relations are good or bad for China's development? Regardless of the actual situation in the country, is it true that the large dollar spread to backward countries such as Africa is correct for China's own development and international relations? On economic issues, should we discuss "regression of the country into the country" or "retreat of the country into the country"? Should the economic line go back to Premier Zhu Rongji's efforts to develop the private economy and reduce the inefficient state-owned enterprises? Should we stick to market orientation or plan orientation? What boundaries and principles should the state be involved in with the economy? Should state-owned enterprises compete with private enterprises? Should financial regulation be transparent? Politically, is it clear whether the Party or France University? Is it clear that the ruling party can go beyond the constitution? Should the rights stipulated in the Constitution be implemented? Can the basic rights of citizens be sacrificed for short-term stability? Is freedom of the press and freedom of speech realized? Are private media allowed? How does the rule of law work? Should the justice be independent? Can citizens criticize the government? Is media and opinion supervision necessary? Should the party and government be separated? Should private property be protected? Should official property be made public? Should local officials be determined and accountable to local people? Should local governments practice a certain degree of autonomy? Does the government have no property rights? In relations with Taiwan, is reunification important or peace important? Is the form of the state important, or is the well-being of the people important? On the issue of Hong Kong, is Hong Kong's prosperity important or is the central authority important? Should Hong Kong be allowed to implement full local elections? The evaluation of Xi Jinping's work since he took office is as important as bringing down the Gang of Four. The evaluation of Xi Jinping's ruling line should be more significant than the historical positioning of the Third Plenary Session of the 11th Central Committee. 👍 1

Yuan 6th Gear May 17, 2020 Share May 17, 2020 I think some people here might have watched this. This is a 1999 production in China. It depicted the life of Yongzheng Emperor, one of the earlier but greatest Qing Emperors. It followed closely to what was recorded in history to some extent. There were a few deviations here and there. The production has a total of 44 episodes. So you can view this if you can't sleep or bored during this CB when you have some interest in Qing dynasty history.
Lala81 Hypersonic May 14, 2021 Share May 14, 2021 (edited) OK. This is a highly insightful series of videos on the issues facing China. It tries to be quite neutral from a western perspective. Series of 4 videos and the last video ties it all up. Got a bonus video but that's only for special sign ups. It leaves out xinjiang, communist party antics etc. Just focus on geography, economics and trends. Excellent stuff. There was a lot of speculation why there was a delay.

Ok lah youtube videos good for people like me who don't follow China news closely. With a longer length video, it can explore the issues with more depth and graphs. And no need to have a quick summary like news articles which would otherwise be a huge WOT. Edited May 14, 2021 by Lala81
