Tire air pump difficulty

User problem.

After you set the pressure, insert the nozzle into valve, you must let the pump do the job. The pump will "check" before pumping to ensure you don't have a blown face. If set pressure is less than what your existing tyre pressure, it will release "hong". If the set pressure is higher than your existing tyre pressure, it will start to "ting ting ting..." pump pump pump....

In short, take time to let the pump "check". Don't push in and out or push in and ease off... always push it in and hold it there.....

hmmm....push it in and hold it there......thats my usual practise.....

I heard bicycle tires need very high air pressure, you just confirm that.

the contact patches are merely the size of two thumb prints, supporting the bike and rider, amazing.

What you said is roadie tyre.

Fat bike has bigger contact patch & max pressure is 15psi

If dont know how much to pump bicycle tyre

Just pump to hard lah. How to tell hard?

Use you fingers to hold lah.

I think people are getting less intelligent these days.

I don't know if it's the parents or school or tv or social media.

In another thread the TS felt cheated he had to give a deposit

To the hotel. Can start a thread to complain. How dense can

People be? Maybe pumping tyres is really too complicated for

Some people.

When pumping the tire, the air from the pump does not seem to get into the tire.

When I remove the pump from the tire valve, can hear a loud stream of air coming out from the pump.

Need to go through about 3-4 times before I hear the ting ting sound that the tires are fully pumped.

Why is there such difficulty.

Service station tyre inflator is of pre-set type and due to design it's must be equipped with closed type air chuck. What is closed type air chuck - at the chuck head there is a needle check valve that when come into contact with the tyre tubless valve,  the need check valve will open and allow air from the pre-set pump air to enter the tyre.

From yr description , the said chuck needle valve is fault / sticky. Very common problem.

Hard does not necessary means sufficient pressure.

I disconnect the air input hose from the pump and connect to this, then I pump my tyres.

Be very sure to shut off the pre-set meter before you disconnect the inflating chuck from the hose.

Service station pre-set inflator , to most of the  motorists , it is not very friendly. Many are confused with Kpa, Bar, Psi & Kg/cm2 and the mode of inflation.

Hand held new type of tyre inflator gauge are much  easier to use and has 3 functions - check air presssure, deflate and inflate tyre, just simply by not pressing the gauge lever, depress the lever mid way and fully derepress the lever.

Actually hard doesn't mean anything - it can be correct, under or over.

IMHO, the only reason why the two fingers test exist is because no one can tell exactly how much to pump the bicycle tyre !

Most of my bicycle tyres has the max pressure on the tyre itself.

The mountain bike is 50 and the smaller bike is 35.

If under inflated its very tiring to ride so if there is

no markings then tell by riding.

If people really cannot tell by feeling, cannot tell by

riding and there is no markings then I am not sure

how to help them.

I didn't know inflate bicycle tyres also so complicated.....what happened to good old common sense of pumping air until the tyres feel hard?

Juz like car tyre.  Load index vs tyre pressure.

Do you pump car tyre till it feel hard?
