Can someone help me what is LCR?? :)

I am looking for a budget car for my wife - came across this Mitsubishi space star. I have some questions and would appreciate some advise here:

1) I was thinking of a second hand Cat A small car but when I check the depreciation is still in the range of $8-9k a year, so I thought might as well get a new one with similar depreciation -  is that logical for most of you? Yes

2) I am comparing with the new one such as

- Mazda 2 (1.5ltr) $90-95 k depreciation of $8.5 to $9k a year

- For Nissan - the current new car is Note series also roughly $90k depreciation about $9k but it is only 1.2 ltr

- Toyota cannot find comparable because the closest is Altis which cost more than $100k

- Suzuki has a new model Ignis yet to be launched , otherwise swift 1.4 ltr also within my budget.

All good cars, your wife should test drive all and see which one she likes.

I guess that cover the Japanese make because I presume for continental car should be more expensive and less value for money.

Can I have some advise which is a better choice - value for money, driving for long term hopefully over the entire 10 years , considering repair , mileages and reliability of the car. thanks a bunch... really appreciate some help here.

So far no review on this car yet. Bring ur wife go see actual car then decide. But judging from the price might as well get perodua bezza but price to be released on 4th. Other suitable are jazz, note, accent hb, swift.

They still have the L200/Triton and Pajero Sport for the rugged market.

In fact that's their main focus now. You don't see much sedans from them anymore.

I thought this space star is a hatchback version of attrage? Find the interior design look like the same as attrage.

When I was at mitsubishi, the se tried to sell me the space star. Told me space star was 3k more ex than attrage and I asked her pay 3k more for a smaller car?

She say got 6 airbags (I feel no need. Best is to drive in a way never need airbags)

DRL (cosmetics only)

Auto headlight and/or wiper, don't remember (no need I have my hands)

Auto start/stop engine (no need. No feasible in Singapore)

Rear seats can fold down (or get attrage for lesser price with bigger boot space)

So chose my attrage.

But of course maybe some people find it attractive. To each their own I suppose.

I did see a few space stars running on the road already.

People like you are why BM can continue to sell 2 air bags in the Altis.

I hope for your sake you are never T-boned by a careless driver.

It has a useful safety effect to some extent but most consider it merely cosmetic. Although those buggers who forget to turn on proper headlights and leave the glary DRLs on at night are annoying, they are better than total night riders.

Attrage has a larger boot but sometimes folding seats are just better when you need to carry a tall or boxy object.

Space Star's (ugh I still find the name awkward, prefer Mirage) headlamps are bi-xenon type as well.

How do you drive in a way that no need the 6 airbags? The extra 4 airbags are usually from those angles which you can't control. The 2 front airbags are the only ones that you can really have a chance of driving in a way to never need to use them.

Feel that discussion should be related to title and not digress.

Anyway I believe that majority of the times accidents happen because people forget that it's a privilege to drive and not an entitlement.

I'm sorry you had to buy a BM altis with 2 airbags because of me.

I'm with u on this.

Everyone has a different risk appetite.

For example. I thinking putting my life in the hands of an aggressive taxi driver is worse than the insistence on airbags

Probably due to the road condition there, the mirage takes up a lot less space, can squeeze between crowds more easy

This reminds me about how Sonata cabs supposedly don't have any airbag. If that means not even one for the driver that is kind of inhumane for the taxi laus themselves.

But my point is that still a lot of people have a "it won't happen to me" mentality and when you have only 2 airbags it only helps in a forward collision. Those who benefit most from additional airbags are passengers.

But, I agree with everyone else that the prevention is better than any reduction in severity. But even though everyone seems to think so, we have bloody accidents all the same.

Attrage has no start/stop? This setup in my note is annoying, have to switch off each time I start to drive.
