Bigger tyres helps handling. You thinking of doing strut bar and anti roll bar as well?

 

I never think so far bro @Jamesc. I did think of installing aftermarket suspension to avoid the floating feeling but am more worried about insurance coverage when installing such stuff....in the event when something happen *touch wood*.

 

Insurance aside, can you feel the strut bars and ARB helps in the handling? Is it expensive?

ARB and Strut bar are really cheap.

 

$200 for both fitted in JB by Ultra Racing.

 

I watch all the videos on YouTube and looks like it works.

 

Got a lot of videos explain how it works also.

Hey guys,

 

I just switched my tires and rims whilst in JB to 195/55R15 and 15" respectively. Was using stock Hankook Kinergy 175/65R14 from AD but switched to Michelin Energy XM2 tires.

 

The car feels so much more planted now with the new rims and tires especially when making turns. The road noise and rolling resistance were both reduced significantly.

 

The car's acceleration doesnt seem affected,maybe slightly slower if go by gut feel but doesn't really matter much to me in SG. Its not like we can drive fast here. Braking is also much more effective now.

 

Can consider upsizing your rims with wider tires if you want a more planted ride.

Where did you get your tyres/rims? Pocket damaged?..

Yo @Cypher I got them from Era Maju Taman Desa Jaya after doing some research and asking around. The price they quoted for 15" inch rims with lock nuts and the tires was about 2198RM and this is not even counting my old wheel/tire trade in. The salesperson i spoke to was very patient, explaining everything through WA and they had a wide rim selection.

 

The tires were 258RM(85SGD)/tire which was darn cheap (made in Jul 2018). I was asking around the usual SG tire shops and the range of quotes for XM2 was $95-108/tire.

 

I am probably gonna get some online bashing for using replica rims but I felt the rims had to be of certain quality since they offered 1 year warranty.

195/55/R15 has a larger overall diameter than stock diameter. Tyres will also be sticking out abit laterally fr wheelarc.

 

Sat in a relative Bezza with this same profile with 2 pax behind & some stuff in boot.

 

Tyres kept rubbing wheelarc throughout journey. Problem persisted even when going much slower. Problem got worse especially when going over bridge joints if u guys know what I mean.

 

The only tyre size updgrade w/o affecting overall diameter is 185/55/R15. Even with this updgrade, sometimes will also rub wheelarc due to slight increase in width when full loaded with 3 pax behind & boot full capacity.

 

With 1.3 NA engine with a unladen weight of 915kg. Do calculate the balance u desire. Cheers.

Rolling resistance can never be reduced from an increased in tyre width just a note for all. Reduced road noise maybe due to tread profile but definitely not rolling resistance as it defies the theory of physics.

 

Increased in rolling resistance will likely see an increase in FC & slower pickup acceleration. Gradual or normal driving wont feel it so obvious but those who prefer sprinting off fr green light to optimum speed quickly will notice the significant diff.

ET37 & ET38 no rubbing? Dun tell me the tyres are being brought inner into the wheel arc? If so, wouldnt the car hv issues doing a full lock u-turn? The inner width of the wheel arc dun seems wide visually.

I get u now. Do u mean using ET35 on front but ET37 & ET38 on rear? If so, doesnt that mean the tyre rim / tyre size is different between front & rear? Thanks for ur effort in explaining all this info so far.

You got it wrong. Remove your concern regarding the front tyres. Whatever the combo I stated above, there never was an issue in the first place, only the rear. Cheers..

 

Let me summarize for the benefits of those who want to upgrade their Rim/Tyres.

 

15x6.5J ET37/ET38 with 195/50R15 and 195/55R15 -> No scrubbing at rear fender.

 

15x6.5J ET35 with 195/50R15 -> No scrubbing at rear fender.

 

15x6.5J ET35 with 195/55R15 -> Very slight scrubbing at rear fender under full load.

 

15x7J ET35~ET38 with 195/50R15 and 195/55R15 -> Scrubbing at rear fender under load.

Hi bros, need some advice urgently.

 

A driver reversed into my car earlier this evening. The damage on the bumper isnt bad but the front proximity sensor also kena. What I am afraid of is there is radiator damage although no signs of leaking.

 

She offered to settle privately but said depends on the cost. We took the photos, exchanged contact details and drove off.

 

I am thinking of going back to Perocom to assess the damage although its not part of the insurance authorized workshop.

 

Any advice on this?
