KIA Stinger GT

Does “lane watch” feature mean “lane keeping assist”?

Here’s the Stinger vid on such feature:

If it’s not brought in by C&C for the models available in SG, then the actual question should address to the AD & local authorities.....

Yes, as I understand it, some Stinger models got only 3 stars initially from ANCAP because they lacked these newer safety features:-- https://www.ancap.com.au/safety-ratings/kia/stinger/aae95c.

If i'm not wrong, KIA Australia later relented:-- https://www.ancap.com.au/safety-ratings/kia/stinger/4e81e8. So, all Stinger models later got 5 stars from ANCAP.

Hence the technology is available from the manufacturer.... so it’s a matter the features are added to the said vehicle in a particular market.... as consumers we want all these options but are we willing to pay more for it.... for the manufacturers, it concerns costs, regulatory requirements and consumers demand....

Sadly, in Singapore, the market forces are simply too small to influence the manufacturers. Hence, the question is whether the local authorities are concerned with these features. Are they “must have” or “good to have” for motorists and road user safety?

The Stingers have all this stuff. I think it's a matter of whether C&C orders them from Korea with these features. These features will add to OMV, which will add to government taxes, and will therefore increase the price tag.

I believe these features will be pretty mainstream in future, like airbags etc.; but, at the moment, false positives may be a dangerous concern. For example, my brother in-law's Volvo XC60 has come to a stop in front of humps more than once.

Yup..... hopefully soon..... we as consumers could have all these features as standard on our ride without paying with arm and leg Edited by Taichizi

I've tried the active safety systems and adaptive cruise in the S90 and I think it's fantastic. In many countries, its being offered across the range for mid to upper tier models due to a combination of consumer demand and safety regulators. But in Singapore, its the first thing ADs remove to reduce OMV.

Cnc does not bring in either the Stinger or the Sorento with active safety features, which frankly isn't ideal for their flagship models because these are not expensive options to implement.

Instead we get the (definitely less useful) auto parking.

Sigh. What to do.

Even cheaper cars like Subaru Imprreza/XV have similar things now:-- https://www.subaru.asia/sg/en/news/12/Subaru-launches-EyeSight-Driver-Assist-Technology-at-the-Singapore-Motorshow-2018.

I test drove the 2.0 Stinger and thought it was really very nice, otherwise. But, I may still buy it even without the ADAS features.

I don't disagree. But end of the day it's not a Kia issue, it's a Cnc issue.

Agree that Stinger is still an excellent deal regardless.

Where did you read about the 2019 specs, Taichzi?

Aren't you friends concerned about the absence of things like automatic emergency braking and lane watch etc. when considering purchase of a brand new car? What are your thoughts, StingerGT?

Haven't needed those (touch wood). I don't think it's an industry standard yet for ALL new cars so I'm fine with it. As of now, I wouldn't like to pay a premium for it but I probably won't say the same in the future.

But everyone car buying criteria is different lah so to each his own. I made sure the Stinger scored well in crash tests (youtube) & discovered it had knee air bag (relatively new in car safety). You know, basic standard safety features.. made sure they were present.

Saw a review on it , kinda cool car , really glad to see KIA make some more performance oriented machines , but the nicest high-ish powered car out on the market for me has to be the Giulia QT

saw a red SMC plate Stinger along ECP this morning... the red looks good, but personally still like the deep chroma blue...

These are probably more suited to big countries like US or Aust where they do alot of highway driving, in SG I would rather have 360 camera parking which is much more useful especially given the tight parking in SG (Also HUD)

Just saw the recent price list 200k for the 3.3 litre is a very good price considering the performance.

Every car manufacturer who aspires to sell cars in either Europe or US must have all the active safety features... so Kia is not inferior to other premium brands where the technology is concerned. European and US car manufacturers keep investing in these safety features cos of regulations and lawsuits... very costly class action suits... it always arrives on our shores as standard features like a decade later... even today 6 or 7 airbags aren't standard safety... but cosmetic stuff like DRLs are often prioritized by our ADs... cos we don't more aggressive safety policing here... look at the construction industry in Singapore will give one a good idea about how important safety is as a culture... even after so many deaths...

MOT/LTA never have any safety device rules for car we drive in Singapore.

Last week, i took a ride in 2010 Mitsubishi Triton pick-up truck in Malaysia.  There are 2 airbags.
