New Kia Niro Hybrid

Perhaps you were on the sports mode all the way. That gives quite a bit of roar. Not sure about road noise though...it's supposed to be on quiet tires

But why do you say built in features is less than the k3 sx? Rain sensing wipers, moon roof?

Doesn't drive like suv is true though... Wished it came with 18" wheels which would make it higher off the ground. The 16 " are a little puny but give good fuel economy...

I tried all the 3 modes, but the beauty of K3 is I can switch whichever mode I want whenever mood I'm in.

Sensing wipers I have no chance to try cause not raining. And they are having a sunroof not moonroof, the front seat can't see it and the rear seat just barely see it. They do have a blindspot sensor but I just find it annoying to hear the peeping when I still prefer to trust my eye sight.

What missed out that I will frequently used are modes of driving, front/back sensor and gear switching.

Went down to Alexandra yesterday to see the Niro but the sales person were not interest to talk to me. All standing near the count cheating. I just look around and left without asking for more information. Maybe sales too good don't bother with new customer. Anyway my feel is the car look normal and feature basic. Not that nice looking too as compare to sonata. since I will need to pay more for road tax for hybrid car, the cost saving from fuel will not make much different if I buy a hybrid or normal petrol car.

According to C&C, road tax is the same as a 1.6L petrol ie $744.

Isn't the basic Sonata more costly than this car?

I checked on that specifically with C&C - they confirmed that its $744. Think sgcarmart made a mistake.

Perhaps yysiong can confirm ?

Yes, that looks correct if you enter petrol electric vehicle, 1580cc, 38kW.

That's the same as a petrol car of 1580cc.

You are providing alternate facts here with your first post...

Another one providing alternate facts with the first post...

Best to read from the originators website...

https://www.lta.gov.sg/content/ltaweb/en/roads-and-motoring/owning-a-vehicle/costs-of-owning-a-vehicle/tax-structure-for-cars.html

Reproduced the relevant part...

[s$475 + S$12(PR-70)] x 0.6256

Niro is 141 bhp which is 105.144 kW.

As the road tax for a normal 1.6 litre car is higher... Hence road tax is similar to a 1.6 litre's...

Thanks for the link to LTA website.

if base on 105kw then my initial statement on the road tax is correct for Niro.

It is S$1,400 for 1 year.

[s$475 + S$12(PR-70)] x 0.782

[s$475 + S$12(105-70)] x 0.782

[s$475 + S$12(35)] x 0.782

[s$475 + S$420)] x 0.782

S$895 x 0.782

= 699.89 (1/2 year road tax)

Not sure why the reaction is so great ...

Think the key question is whether the power rating refers to the vehicle (105kw) or just the electric motor (38kw).

I had assumed the latter, but I may be mistaken. Would be a bit strange if it was the former because the first tier (on the LTA website) starts at >7.5kw and it's hard to imagine any car with such a low total power output.

This is factual, so there shouldn't be any reason to debate. Just need a buyer of the Niro to check with the SE to confirm.

The gov has never been much of a green advocate so they maybe trying to crawl back the lost from petrol tax saving from hybrid vehicles. Yes really need an owner of Niro to clarify to us all what the correct road tax is for this car.

Its the higher of either Engine Capacity or Maximum Motor Power Rating.

It is NOT the converted total bhp of engine+motor into KW.

Based on 1580cc

Road Tax = [s$250 + S$0.375 (1,580 - 1,000)] x 0.782

= [s$250 + S$0.375 (580)] x 0.782

= [s$250 + S$217.5] x 0.782

= S$467.5 x 0.782

=S$365.59

Based on 38kw Max Motor Power Rating (assume battery is 38kw as per @Fungyee77)

Road Tax = = [s$250 + S$6(38 - 32.5)] x 0.782

= [s$250 + S$6(5.5)] x 0.782

= [s$250 + S$33] x 0.782

= S$283 x 0.782

= S$221.31

Therefore, the Road Tax for the petrol-electric car is S$365.59 (for 6 months) or S$731.18 (for 12 months).

Thanks for this most enlightening post... I was also guilty of providing alternate facts...
