Wonder once the ignition turned off. The power steering and brake are also not functioning as normal. So not sure how the car is going to stop safely if brake pump is no longer working.

If it's oem from factory, don't worry about the button.

It's just a signal to the ecu that you want to start or stop.

The factory engineers would have programmed it, whether it's safe to stop or not, by allowing or ignoring that button.

Otherwise, they would be bankrupt by class action law suits before you know it.

However, if that button is modified by 3rd party, then all bets are off. Good luck to you.

No worries, our Brake Booster Vacuum can do a 'normal' brake for 1-2 press...

So in summary,

carpark speed press button = stop

Highway speed acidentally press button = boh dai ji

Highway speed press and hold button for 3sec = stop (& stop wearing your high-heels/slippers while driving!)

Turbocharged

Seems some newer cars always have their brake system functioning, though.

Mine is older type - need to insert card key into slot (just like ATM machine). The electricity supply will only cut off when the fob key is removed from the slot.

Not sure about those totally keyless/handsfree (where you can put into your pocket/handbag) with weak or kaput button battery at the suay time.

Mine is a push-start button with keyfob in the pants kind of system.

Usually for this type of system, during start up (push button), the system will check the battery strength from the keyfob and if it is low it will issue you nagging warning to change the battery on your speedo info cluster.

After some years, my keyfob internals got abit loose which resulted in the battery having intermittent contacts with the terminals. It happened that while driving at expressway speed, the contacts was suddenly gone and the system flashed a warning that no key is detected.

But the engine still runs and car still operate as usual, just that when you finally come to a stop and push the button to turn off the engine, you will not be able to start the engine again using the normal method (there is usually an alternative emergency no-battery method to start the car) ^_^

Anyone want to try on your car, please find a safe place.

Nice to know.... with the recent AYE crash created by the Merc driver, I was discussing with friends what the passenger could have done to over-ride the driver.   Or if a driver and has a sudden heart attack, what can the passenger do to stop the vehicle (electronic park button type).

Read the car manual I guess. The info is mostly in there.

e.g. for my car it states clearly in the manual: below 10kph,the start/stop button will off the engine, pull and hold electronic parking brake switch over 1 sec at any speed = full emergency stop etc.....

That's the great question...Most of the people don't know the fact behind it. I am one of them.... In My Car I have to insert key to start or stops, but while driving, i switch the key steering locks and have to face some serious damage. In Automatic Push Button Cars if you just push a button while driving a noise come but car not shuts down. If you are pushing the stop button for the little time system got shut down.
