Yesterday, I took SQ back to Singapore. It feels like home once I boarded.

Cathay Pacific reports first loss in eight years

 

HONG KONG — Cathay Pacific Airways reported its first loss in eight years and scrapped plans for a second-half dividend after competition from Chinese airlines and losses from fuel hedging dented earnings. The stock fell the most in seven months.

 

The net loss totalled HK$575 million (S$105 million) in 2016, versus profit of HK$6 billion in 2015 and well short of the HK$369 million profit forecast in a Bloomberg survey of 18 analysts.

 

 

Asia’s biggest international airline said its revenue dropped 9.4 per cent to HK$92.8 billion, while the loss per share was 14.6 HK cents, compared with a gain of HK$1.52 in 2015.

 

“Three economic factors were important: The reduced rate of economic growth in mainland China, a reduction in the number of visitors to Hong Kong and the strength of the Hong Kong dollar,” said Mr John Slosar, the chairman of Cathay, according to a filing to the Hong Kong Stock Exchange.

When a company do well its always "my vision, my management style, my strategy".

 

When make a loss its always competition, strong currency, gov regulation,

 

weak economy etc and never them.

 

You and me we have all the right excuses to be in top management too

 

unless you are already in top management then please excuse me.

Cathay Pacific won't fold so easily la. 

 

They are under a big conglomerate called Swire Group which can easily absorb this 105 mil loss (btw, they made a profit of 10 times this amount in 2015).

 

Although I have to say that swire group also has some other "distressed" parts like their oil and gas/shipping divisions.

I always fly on Cathay Pacific on business to HK. To me they are just as good as SQ, at least I've seen better smiles from their stewardess.

Sadly we will never reach the top where the air is thin and there

 

is not enough oxygen for the brain to fully work.

I took CX last month.  Ok leh. 

 

However, there's no toys or stuff given to children on broad and they don't have Seafood meal in the special meal.
