since you spent  $280 for a 5 min job a few months ago,you should go back and tell the mechanic the recurrence of the problem and ask if he could do the same fix FOC . It is important to  understand what fix did he do previously. If he will to charge you another $280, then you have an option to look for other mechanics.

Actually, you are absolutely right..!!

You should go back to the mechanic and why don't you ask the exact problem to your mechanic....!!!

Do the proper utilization of your spent money man..!!!

My turn to experience Engine Check light on my 12yr old Edix.

Observed that when the engine check light is on, the ECO green light does not light up at all even when I am light footed.

Rev abit here and there, then the engine check light is OFF and the ECO light come back again.

Changed spark plugs, fuel pump and fuel filter last weekend but after awhile, engine check light came up again then shortly after went off.

Mechanic also noticed my engine is leaking quite a lot of engine oil. Not sure if this is the reason.

Hello,

The engine light comes on to indicate a malfunction in the engine or the pollution control system. This can cause the engine power loss. In this case, it is necessary to stop the car immediately, because there is a risk of deterioration of the engine.

However, it may also happen that the malfunction indicator lights up following a false contact or a non-dangerous fault of the vehicle, for example.

The easiest way is to check what triggered the lighting of the light, to see if a possible fault is causing it or if it is a simple mistake.

To do this, you can contact a professional, who can proceed with the diagnosis and possibly repair this failure. The price varies between 50$ and 100$.

You can also purchase a diagnostics application that allows you to separate actual faults from non-hazardous display faults.

I hope you find a solution to your problem quickly.

Hi, My Honda Fit GE-6 engine check warning is on for 5 days. Went to workshop yesterday and check the code. Technician told is because of O2 sensor issue. Need to replace. Original O2 sensor for honda fit cost about $380 per pcs quoted. Any idea where to get OEM? The car COE will expire next year June. Don’t want to spend much on this. Thansk.

FC would probably suffer as car A/F ratio might run on the richer side.

Unless you use as a PHV, it does not justify the cost for the repair.

Seriously I am one of those that cannot see and leave such a light on my dash, especially engine icon.

Me thinking if it's other issues later besides the O2 sensor, may not be safe to continue driving, assuming its the same fault.

Pls do ask the workshop if you can get a used but good working part (something that has more mileage on it to go still).

Otherwise bite the bullet lah. Fuel consumption go up in this climate, you may be better off not see your money draining out like no tomorrow over a repair that's at best, a fixed amount vs unknown per your usage.

If this amount is an issue, you may be happier too without the car. Cos more items may require repairs or replacement.

No, not belittling TS but these days, there are options if one just need car from point A to B without having to lug heavy goods.

Just me lah.

Stay safe all

Cheers

actually there are 2 o2 sensors in a typical car. single bank.

1. one is for measuring the Air fuel ratio. this between the engine and the catalytic converter, called o2 bank1 sensor 1

2. one is for measuring the efficiency of the catalytic converter are is placed after the the Catalytic converter. called o2 bank1 sensor2.

So depending on which is the fault code, sensor 1 or 2. the FC for sensor 1. will be affected but if sensor 2 then no.

anyway this is the part number for sensor1. 36531-RB0-003

there are many OEM ones out there for $50, can always try.

Let's asked ourselve if there is something wrong to our engines. Sometimes, at the back of our mind its time to change the engine but what stopping us is the cost. If you need a cost effective replacement email me at [email protected]

@kohfongf1 Just disconnect the negative terminal of the battery for a few seconds and connect back. The CE light will go off. It may come back later. Just repeat the process!

ps. If you do that, you will have to reset your radio settings again.

Honda fit can run w/o the O2 sensor. Just continue driving until expire.

If it really bothers you then call the scrapyards. https://www.sgcarmart.com/directory/listing.php?CAT=20

You can give them a call one by one and ask for price. It will be a used part. They can install it for you.

Air sensor dont need $380. Such an dishonest workshop. You can buy the part and replace it on your own if you know how. The air sensor is simple to replace.
