Thai King

People come and go but not so much for monuments or individuals who are very much larger than life.

We may not share the careful inculcation of love and respect for the King that Thais were subjected to but King Bhumibol was Thailand, the synomity is irrefutable.

Therefore the sense of loss felt even as a farang is apparent still.

can see both the king and the crown prince were educated overseas, why they still keep the lese majeste law?

Without these laws, they won't even be king and prince....

ah gong was also educated overseas right?

Those with clear mind wouldn't take the risk to follow paper generals into battle.

It's not just about risk. How many of our generals inspire confidence and loyalty in us?

Generals in other countries are willing to put their lives on the line for their country and their men and that's why the men are willing to follow them into battle.

Go read the straits time article on the late King. Very balanced article. He's a good man but maybe only one man who can't control too much the politicking/Power plays going on around him (ultimately he's a constitutional monarch).

He's helped the people when they were being cracked down by military dictators but he also tacitly allowed the military to overthrow the elected government on a few occasions.

Interesting. Never knew his brother was allegedly murdered hence making him the king.

Siam very rapidly accepted Western science and education since King Rama IV (remember the King and I?) even more quickly than Japan and earned a lot of respect from the Thai and European people alike and the only kingdom in South East Asia that has never been colonized by Western powers. Parts of Malaya and Cambodia was ceded to Thailand during this era through the power balance against Britain and France.

Thailand was also never invaded in ww2 cos they cooperated with the Japanese...

Lol somehow I think ball carrying and politicking is quite universal. Even in such countries.

Bro, u can be a motivational speaker here [sunny]

With each passing, it quickly reminds me of my own mortality. With each generation passing, it appears to approach my generation soon.

King of Thailand is respected and treated by his people like a demi-god. What or whoever we are, there is still time to make good for the remainder of our lives.

My own mantra:

Face your past without regret. Handle your present with confidence. Prepare for the future without fear.

Was in Hatyai when the the King died yesterday. Seems he was in ill health early this week & people more or less knew it was coming. Heard from supplier that gov announced yesterday gov services will close today & early this morning breaking news (~9am), also applies to other companies.

Everything seems to be normal. Even in airport, no tighter security, checks

Deepest condolences.  The late King has brought a lot of stability to a country torn apart by politics and strife.  Pray that Thailand will continue to be peaceful.

The ww2 cooperation is quite controversial.

that was the time the Thai king have just lost his power and handled the governing of the country to a "elected" government. The prime minister then is a dictator and sort to collaborate with the Japanese to punish the western power for colonisation. The king had little say then.

His exploits hit international headlines in 2007, when a leaked video showed his then consort, Princess Srirasm, performing near-naked at a birthday party with pet poodle Foo Foo. The canine air chief marshal, who died last year, wascremated after four days of Buddhist riteshttps://www.theguardian.com/world/2016/oct/13/thailand-maha-vajiralongkorn-crown-prince-king

Video worth watching?

No HD quality.

Sian thought the royal family is rich, can afford some latest VDR

In bangkok, need to mourn for 30 days

The people respect and worship the King. Need to take this occasion very seriously.

That's the culture of Thai. Behave

Not 30 days. I think it could last 1 year. So be more careful when u go thailand, don't laugh too loud, wear black (safer) and avoid talking about their king.

He's kind of playing ard with politic. He's the one that stopped coup but also the one that started the coup lol

And he's highly suspected of killing his own brother. Only him and his brother alone in the room, then theres gunshot sound.

Hmm I think it would have been easier for him to claim his brother committed suicide rather than murdered if he was involved.

Anyway consigned to history liao. No one alive knows the truth anymore. So long ago.
