When you control too much, then might as well just have a single official press. Then if you let them run while like HK, it is full of BS. Competition is good, just need to set guidelines.

To add on, it has to be real competition and not those wayang type such as telcos and petrol companies etc.

Surprisingly wanbao and shinmin still around? Thought one of them should have closed down long ago liao? Cause i dont understand what is the difference between these two newspaper?

Last time no matter rain or shine, my dad would used to go downstairs to the newpaper stall to buy wanbao in the evening, even many times he has no time to read them, and ended up pile up few weeks of wabao in the living room! -_-

I read some survey few years ago. There are more Chinese newspaper readers as compared to English readers. So this could be their key revenue generator.

This retrenchment exercise at SPH must be the longest ever in the history of mankind. Wonder how is the morale there now.

My own take is that useless paper general heading the company should be the first one to be sack, their share price has been from $4 something a few years ago to $1.68 now. With such f up results, they can still can run articles on Sunday times featuring people who made some money buying and selling properties and detailing what kind of car they drive.
