For AMGs, especially near the top of the range, the right SE may close two eyes. From personal experience.

AMGs are already highly tuned, does RaceChip work on them too?

C160 no put C63S badge = NO TALK!

still waiting to see the first pic being posted / shared 😈

Must be credible lah, otherwise really becomes a laughing stock. C63 has wider fenders, and much bigger brakes, both are expensive to mod. Putting a C200 badge is like wearing push-up bra only, easy and cheap, but to convert to C63 looks is like the full works of squeezing silicone underneath the airport runway! Strapping pillows underneath the T-shirt ain't going to make it....

Not Racechip. This thing:

https://www.performmaster.com/

Most complicated piggy back I've ever seen. Came with two modules connected by a dense wiring loom. Not only does it boost hp/torque but also remove the speed cut, which is very rare in piggybacks.

I was the first owner to use this product in sg, tracked down an importer willing to bring it in and installed it at Garage R.

I dynoed before and after, same dyno, TCF = 1, definite and substantial difference though I can't remember the exact gain.

My car also very comfortably smoked someone else's stock GTS at 40 ti... er... a perfectly legal dragstrip. 😂

That's principally the reason I got it - the GT and the GTS have exactly the same drivetrain so engine mods have the same effect. I felt it was a waste to pay for slightly bigger brakes, active mounts etc. when most driving was going to be on the roads. The GTR is another level of beast but the price differentia between GT and GTS is not worth paying when the performance gap is so easily narrowed.

By the way, the Perform Master ain't cheap. More than 5k sgd but damn worth it for what I got. I would say the modded car felt just a bit quicker than my current McLaren (stock with 625ps). That makes sense based on the dyno results I got post mod.

I wouldn't put a racechip on an AMG - it's a cheap piece of hardware and can cause niggling issues (the one in my M140i has caused a CEL and I've removed it for now with the lockdown going on). But unlike the Racechip which is a trivial install/deinstall, the Perform Master is very involved. Minimum time involved is at least 40min hands on for install and at least the same going the other way. And you need techs to do it, unless you're damn talented. That's why it was important to me to find the right SE (introduced by someone here lol) so I could leave the damn thing inside for servicing. 😁

To set expectations, it's a GLA180 you test drove. The lowest lifeform in the Mercs SUV lineup.

You want a comfortable ride and good power, minimum is GLC200.

Well hard truth is hurting sometimes.

Race chip isn't just an intelligent accelerator or throttle response mod. It's a turbo mod so it just boosts the detuned engine to pre-detune level. It doesn't work with non TC cars, which is why it has quite a bad reputation from the ppl driving bread and butter cars. But for TC detuned cars, this is just heaven!

Just so you know, I have no affiliation with them!

SE will never discuss this with you and in fact, it goes against their principles/pockets if they encourage the use of such mods.

MB will void your warranty only if you try to claim engine or transmission related issues. What you said about them detecting piggyback chip is correct. Also correct when you said most MB customers can't be bothered with these mod upgrades. Usually more popular in the BMW forum.

Did I say race chip & the accelerator thingy are the same?

I even mention it on a diff paragraph.

U can’t read what I’m writing(many dun)nvr mind juzz read my lips!

haha.

What are u going on about non tc cars & bread & butter ones.

We are talking abt MB , for crying out loud.

Force induction since day one or was it after  my W124.

yes, if i own a C160 and want to upsize I will put a C200 -

99% will fly under the radar because nobody will bother to CSI whether that C200 is real

lets be honest, if you see a C63 / C63S - more likely than not you will CSI compare to a C200

I’m a factory outlet fan. Buy off season goods at a discount, why not?

C160 is a new model, so your analogy of factory outlet doesn’t apply.

although I get what you are trying to put across.

I think the C160 fits a non car enthusiast who just wants a point A to B branded executive car to move around.

or for rich parents who want to buy a not so powerful entry junior exec merc for their kids.

Was thinking more of the US factory outlets, rather than the Europe ones...Products are different from those you see in normal stores..

Why nobody criticise the E180. The interior is totally old school with the traditional speedometer cluster. A total turnoff when I saw it at CnC.

At least the C160 is the exact same equipment compare to the C180.

yes, i went to C&C showroom, no soft-close, no side blind - E180  really cut too many corners compare to C160.

but again, if you are a senior citizen / retirees that dream to own a BRAND NEW TOWKAY car for once in your lifetime.

Who cares? C&C must have done their market survey to know there is enough demand for this entry car

Never realised that C&C has brought in the 1.5l E180. Does it share the same engine as the C160?

But at just $22K price diff between the 1.5l E180 and 2l E200, it's a no brainer to go for the E200.

https://www.sgcarmart.com/new_cars/newcars_overview.php?CarCode=11846

yes, you are correct, C160 & E180 both using C200FL 1.5MH engine, just detune
