My experience of changing my tyres in Malaysia.

(edited)

Was checking my tire pressure earlier and noticed lately the outer walls seems to be getting some visible wear and tear, anything I should do or change?

Edit: did some read up and seems like signs of under-inflated showing heavy wear on both shoulders.. hmm odd

under-inflation usually will be both the inner and outer part of the threads showing more wear

if just the our part of the threads, have to look at your alignment, ?camber.

I remembered many years back when I drove my Ford Laser to Malacca and the rear left tyre got punctured and I did not even try to change it cos it is risky to do so at side of road. Somehow a few mins later, this motorbike came by and said he knows of a tyre shop nearby and ask me to drive slowly to the shop. Then i realised that he is one of the worker in that tyre shop. I was using 18 inch tyre and he said my tyre is odd sizing and i have to pay extra. So I had no choice but to pay for a Msia brand tyre for RM$290. He kept my old tyre which is Yokohama DB. I felt cheated but there and then I really have no choice but to buy from that shop.

2 mths back I just change out my old tyre at 1 of the shop in jb...

This is what I had paid..

Michelin primacy 3st make in Thailand S$692 in total after convert.

Include 4 wheel balancing and computerised alignment...

In singapore a tyre shop wanted to sell me same tyre at S$240/per pcs and free balancing the front wheel nia...

I guess I got a saving of S$260 bah...

It's quite a big tyre shop, anyone want change in jb can pm me for address...

Bro ur tyre 17 inch only le

$240 per pcs is a rip off. Thats the price for 18 inch or 19 inch.

I think can get below $200 in sg easily

Buy Kumho Tyres Online - Lowest Price Assured for S$70 https://carousell.com/p/115326959 on #carousell

And to be honest i dont trust malaysian shop price for sg cars. For example i want to duplicate my car key see sg car plate immediately goes up from first quoted price. Reason? Its sg car so the key programme diff. I was like stunned man cos its the same JDM car imported to malaysia. See sg plate immediately jack up price. Need to compare with more shops

The price he quote almost same as quoted in sg shops. His first quoted price was about 2/3 sg price

Bro is Michelin primacy 3st that i bought...S$150/pcs i Can get in singapore but it's other brands...

I chose Michelin becos i trusted in Michelin long lasting tyre..

Normal brand tyre can last abt 60-80k km before change but Michelin I can used till 125k(I had tried it on 2 tyre)

Pay abit more(but not really alot more) can reduce on times of changing the tyre..

Per pcs in singapore dollars I paid $173 for Michelin in Malaysia compare to $170 other brands change in singapore, which is more wo hua, and if wanted to change to same Michelin primacy 3st in singapore it will cost $240/pcs..

In total i got a saving of S$268 for changing in jb...

Hope i did clear your doubt

Seriously I not sure of the place u mention...

It's after mega champion and same side with mega champion accessories shop and opp is the Honda showroom...

Name is save n safe

i always go to the one in pandan area but not to change tyre although its a Michelin tyre distributor.

JB tyre shop easily have the computerized alignment. Best part is the costing is good deal.

how to re-manufactured tyres lol.

buy tyres basically new or used.

if used see yourself aga aga how many tread % left.

new tyres just check DOM, as long as not 3-4 years should be ok

if very pacticular where its make , can check on side wall easily also.

if any tyres dun have this 2 info, u can skip it.

They retread the tyres and restamp with new DOM. lol Edited by Ivan_06

Err i think u nvr read the tyre list carefully. They got sell diff brand and they also got michelin primacy 3 for same size as urs in the list. They listed price $165 per pcs all inclusive.

Then i do another search in mcf marketplace and i found this selling for $180 per pcs

http://www.mycarforum.com/index.php?app=sgcarstore&req=showprod&product=28428

I dunno whether its the same tyre or not but from my experience buy tyre in jb isnt that cheap or more ex than sg as i did research before last time. I think jb cheaper for 16 inch below. For 17 inch and above pricing not that competitive.

And from my experience they indeed got mark up the pricing for sg plate cars. So $173 per pcs isnt that much saving but still good price.

Anyway ur mileage so power! Camry sure a good choice for such mileage. Reliability is important. Other than michelin, i also like pirelli. Not sure how long pirelli last, i normally change car before change tyre hehe

Cheers
