went for a test drive today

slightly disappointed as I didn't quite like the DCT driving experience

It's the lag when you try to move off from stationnery

this has been discussed but just doesn't like the non responsiveness

Maybe I should go for second test drive

this is just a B&B car, we don't expect it to perform like premium car with wet clutch and more powerful TCU unit.

don't just believe how other praise how lighting fast it is. just believe your own feel after driving one.

I see.

tried the sports mode, doesn't feel much diff

Maybe need a longer test drive

the i30 owners group no longer a small one.  Numbers from AD say about 400 units have been sold.  There are about 200 members in chat group where the more active guys and modders frequent.  Here's a recent pic of CNY gathering captured by a drone-toting member. All cars are i30 hatch or wagon inside this pic.  Some of the more aggressive mods include ECU tuning or the LTA approved Bastuck exhaust by Fong Kim.  imo, most guys are quite happy with the i30 - a good base car to upgrade aesthetics and no major problems so far.

Guyz, asking on behalf of my friend. So far how has the i30 DCT performed?

Reliable transmission, works well even with a tuned engine.

I believe it perform as it is.

as per the mechanical issue with dry DCT if your friends as regular to JB with long slow creeping during the long hours jam, then just set aside a fund for clutch replacement cost. Wear n tear are unavoidable in this situation.

otherwise if only in sg usage with light traffic, no issue.

What is rough estimate cost of replacing clutch?  Will the transmission control unit broke down due to heat?

How u define reliability when the car is probably only 2 to 3 years old.

Because the transmission is at least twice as old. Its been used in older models of Hyundai models and you dont hear of any massive Hyundai dct breakdowns reported.

sorry can't help.

is relative new in sg, so probably no indication of actual cost yet. May be few thousands at least, my guess.

TCU damage due to heat, dont know as I not sure know where it located so no advise.

I think the Hyundai dct was first used in veloster which was quite a hassle. If you read overseas forums, people are complaining about the dct in Tucson as well.

In sg, owners of Hyundai cars with dct are not as widespread as VW so we dont hear as much problems.

It's not lifelong transmission oil for the i30 btw. Komoco service interval is change every 100000km. However u can opt to change at a far lower interval if you desire - the oil to use is https://www.ato24.de/en/hyundai-automatic-transmission-oil-atf-sp-iv.html

Personally I'll change every 40000km since it's frequent start and stop traffic in sg
