test drove the car. it is much better than the 2.0. but comes with 2 air bags only.... to make the price attractive. what a waste

ADs think we can't afford to buy those extras. Thus, we can't get a car that that is perfect in all aspect.

Perhaps a stripped down 116d may sell below 100k. Or if all addons for Tucson 1.6t will sell more than Q50.

So cars are cheap not because it is cheaper to produce but cheaper in specification.

A car can be sold with many new features but it comes with reflector halogen headlamp. This is unthinkable!

Serious? Only 2?! The SE didn't even tell me when I asked what is the difference.

Did you SE told you about the price? Any other difference other den the handbrake is lever, no aircon glove compartment and 2 airbag?

about 130K. with the auto tailgate, blind spot detection, 17" rims, no sunroof, no dual climate aircon.

I would rather they ditch the blind spot detection and auto tail gate, equip the car with 6 airbags, and with their conventional auto gearbox instead of the problematic Hyundai DCT.

Turbocharged

I believe many drivers prefer the handbrake lever. The worst for me and a dealbreaker is foot parking brake. I really treasure the handbrake in my current car and i know the next time i buy a new car it is likely not going to be there anymore.

Just to add, i dont do handbrake turns or drifting stuffs. Just normal daily driving and i love to pull my handbrake lever with the tiak tiak tiak noise.

I actually like the foot parking brake as it gives me more room at the side to place other stuff. I don't find it intrusive at the foot well. [:p]  that was my old car. love it to bits despite its many flaws.

my current car has an electronic brake. saves space as well but not as shiok as the foot brake where i can stamp on it hard and hear the tiak tiak tiak sound. [laugh]

Electronic brake is far superior, imo.  I usually flip the brake switch at traffic light to give my foot a rest. Then just press gas and drive off without hassle since brake will auto release.

Cos when I bought my Sonata, I was asking about both the 1.4 L and 1.6 L turbo engines. I asked my SE why they didn't bring in the 1.6 L turbo for the Sonata. He mentioned the OMV was too high and the tax structure was such that the selling price would higher than the Japanese 2.0 L and comparable to the 2.5 L versions which would place their 1.6 L both at a price and perception disadvantage. And he went on to also talk about the 1.4 L turbo for the Elantra... he said he hoped they could bring it in as it would be a game changer... maybe once these turbo engines reach mass adoption as they are more or less the base engines in other much larger markets the cost of manufacture may drop enough for Komoco to bring these in. See if the Japs beat them to the punch... our very peculiar tax structure creates these kinds of situations where better engines are passed over for older less efficient engines due to taxation and pricing issues...

Basically that's the estimate and the reason why it's not brought in yet... the OMV. And if you ask any SE, no one will commit to Komoco bringing in the turbo engines... the Tucson is a test case... if it sells very poorly then I think can forget turbo engines from Hyundai for a while... actually it's priced pretty high, definitely not the right price... but they chose the Tucson cos SUVs are the hottest cars to sell now... and they don't have a small SUV like a Vezel or Qashqai to sell with the 1.4 L turbo to test the market... they won't test on their cash cow the Elantra... that's their bread and butter car... their best seller by miles...

sounds like a victim of the industry complaints and hence the dumb sizing of CAT A because the lesser made could not keep up with the conti equivalent of 1.4 twin charge turbo.

Now they have the ability to keep up to pace, the selling becomes difficult as they have to rely on old obsolete tech to sell cars.

Same as the focus now selling 1.0 T and Opel..

Yes I love that... but my car doesn't come with one... the Sonata... but foot brake is the poor man's choice lar... still better than having a hand brake that occupies so much space... my console box is so huge cos of the removal of the hand brake.

Is the 1.6 Turbo road tax based on 1600cc? Hence around $700 per year?

It should be based on engine capacity... only the COE category covers engine capacity and power output.

Carbuyer review on the new turbo, review wise seems good, drive is torquey. Looking forward to better times whereby Elantra and Sonata can get to enjoy turbo engines too.

Enjoy reading. Cheers!

Agree. I sat in both with friends and Tucson is far more cosy and comfortable. The harrier floor is very high which makes me feel awkward and claustrophobic. But the harrier is more plush inside.
