Spring Moderator August 12, 2016 Share August 12, 2016 Any knows whats Phelps' semi timing? Actually Phelps 51.58sec is only 6th fastest of the semi finalists but don't read too much into this. The Olympic record is 50.58 sec by Phelps in Beijing 2008 and our Joe is 0.25 sec away from it. It would be a dream if he could get the Gold and bag the record as well Haha getting greedy!! 51.58, he came in second ↡ Advertisement

Kusje Supersonic August 12, 2016 Share August 12, 2016 CNA also too much... Their headline for the heats was that JS handed Phelps a "shock defeat". Which part of heats do they not understand?
Count-Bracula Twincharged August 12, 2016 Share August 12, 2016 This morning Fiji beat Great Britain to win the Gold South Africa beat Japan for the bronze. This small nation, with limited financial resources have abundance of spirit. Yes their speed and athleticism is ideal for Rugby 7s. Touted to be the best 7s player of all time is Fijian Waisale Serevi but sadly he has retired. He was here in S'pore recently promoting 7s rugby which is well suited for Asian countries compared to the 15 a side version. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waisale_Serevi Fiji won the Rugby 7s here not too long ago. Lala81 Hypersonic August 12, 2016 Share August 12, 2016 (edited) I hope Phelps did not tarik in the semis...that's all he's got [laugh] Phelps and Laslo, De clos are all lao jiang. They will swim fast enough to garner a decent starting position if possible 3rd to 5th lane. The show only starts in the finals. I believe the fastest swimmer in the 200m butterfly semis was the hungarian youngster, 19 year old. But he only got the bronze in the finals. Lala81 Hypersonic August 12, 2016 Share August 12, 2016 (edited) Didn't know this but ya big price to pay!! Those Chinese divers are winning by quite a few points in most of their events whereas the rest of the field is normally 0.x points diff only. Their training is rigorous and they must have dived countless times to achieve this kind of perfection. I suppose for the Chinese athlete, it's a way out of poverty for them and their families n hence the ruthless attitude!! One of the reason why the european and other country divers are not as good is simply they don't dive as many times as the PRC. The PRC is result over body. Yeah there's no lack of young hungry divers ready to do what it takes to reach perfection. he had just finished the 200M IM which he won easily. Phelps is insane. Maybe he will still be there in 2020 lol. Read he train until 5% body fat for this olympics. He's actually in better shape than he was in 2012 just that he's older. Double gold for 100m women's freestyle. Joint Gold for Canada's Penny Oleksiak and USA's Simone Manuel in women's 100m freestyle Edited August 12, 2016 by Lala81

The smaller Asian bodies is an advantage for diving, similarly, Ang Moh physique will favour certain sports over Asians.
Weez911 Supersonic August 12, 2016 Share August 12, 2016 Schooling is born in Sg. Even his father is born here. They used to be my neighbour at Bedok reservoir, both parents are very nice and friendly. At a young age, Schooling woke up between 5 to 6am everyday to train for hours, probably for this very moment. I'm very proud of him, and I wish I can be at Rio to cheer for our own boy. Go Schooling!!

Agreed.... don't read too much into it... cos Phelps may just want to keep a bit of strength ... and tricks up his sleeves (or trunks) .. and only show full hands in the final tomorrow ... What really matter is the Schooling has erased the Asian record ! He is the fastest in Asia ! Now, we just pray that he will continue his fine form and give the best National Day present ! Not trying to tempt fate but looks likely he's our only medal hope in this Games. I'm not sure what's happening in sailing but as for the women's team event in TT, the girls are due to meet Korea in the quarters and that is a tough ask so I'm not expecting much but hopefully the sailors do something since our shooting has gone up in smoke as well.
