This is the new system Pep has introduced.

Not sure last time anyone used it but certainly first time seeing it myself.

We have False 9, so this one possibly is False Fullbacks

:D

Wah lao... super confusing for the players, i'm sure. No wonder they were not looking like champs - must still be getting used to it.

And he prefers Sagna to Zabaleta? Tot the former a bit rusty after sitting on the bench for so long...

Did he use this tactic at Barca or BM?

I really hate costa. And not cos of the winning goal. He is such a f***ing dirty player.

Really makes me wonder what would have happened if Pool had succeeded in signing him before moaner influenced him...

If he had still done the same thing, would we still support him... or thrash him for tarnishing the club's reputation time and again...

Just to spice up the show. The pair "fiery" exchanges are just to make it more interesting to watch MNF

Ya, but I did miss Neville when he was away as this pair, with the good match analysis, and witty, sometimes poking exchanges make interesting viewing.

To cure insomnia, listen to Wally Brolly with Yorke at BeIn.

i can only say OUTSTANDING tactics from a world-class manager. truly thinking out of the box tactics.

however,... what is the intended impact ah? the DM slots back and forms a back 3.  effectively, the fullbacks becomes the CMs..  is it a plot to flood the central midfield area and make it the focal point of attack?  and forsake the width..

sorry coffee shop uncle like me cannot make sense of these world class tactical genius..

Turbocharged

I am not sure why Moreno is targeted from last night game. The challenge to give away the pen was mistimed but I won't say he was wrong or stupid to challenge. The touch from Walcott was pretty heavy and Moreno went for it.

As for the first goal, people yet again question his positioning. I mean, what is he supposed to do if the instruction was for him to push up to offer width on the left side?

He blocked the initial Arsenal move. Coutinho picked up the loose ball and started the counter. As Coutinho was drifting in, Moreno started his run. Then Coutinho played the ball to Lallana who then lost the ball for being too casual and Arsenal countered. They still had 3-4 attackers upfield. At this point, sensing the danger, Moreno sprinted back but still too late to block Walcott's shot.

Haters will say he should just stay back but I will humbly disagree with it.

Moreno is not perfect and can very much improve. I am also supporting the signing of another LB but to blame him for things that is not entirely his fault is becoming too common.

I agree...

fullbacks are very important but always under appreciated

very often they are required to join in the attack, to offer width, but also have the stamina and pace to track back quickly to defend, which is their primary role

full backs always suffer when encounter a quick countering team

that's why need good centerbacks and defensive mid to help to cover

Definitely unable to read Pep's mind but this tactics he deployed could be one off or against certain opponents. Will certainly watch more of their games in the future to see if the FFBs are used again :D

At my current level of understanding, he probably can use this against team that sits deep and play on counter. Can't work against high pressing teams like us and Arsenal imo because there is simply too much movement and alteration of team shape in transitions.

When they used if against Sunderland, the offensive width was offered by Silva and KdB. However, they are not rigidly pushed wide but more of roaming - ie, going wide or cutting in depending on the positions of the front 3.

As said in my earlier post, another advantage of having the 2 FBs acting as CMs helps to cut out passing lanes to the forwards when Sunderland attempt to break from deep.

After just 1 round of action, biggest loser on the ante market for EPL champion is Arsenal. Dropping from 4th to 5th favourite but with odds lengthen from 6:1 to 9:1.

MC, MU and Chelski remain top 3 with the manchester clubs' odds slightly shortened. Pool moved into 4th.

Hull, despite a very decent performance and a win, remains everyone's favourite to be relegated.

Costa aside, did anyone saw Conte's celebration? What a fantastic show of emotion and passion by him. This season's EPL is going to be the best with managers like him and Klopp around pushing the boundary and pressing the emo button of each and every single player and supporter  [thumbsup]

Hmm, maybe many of us can learn use of english word from an Italian.

Conte said Costa is not dirty. He is passionate and he puts passion into everything he does.

Crime of Passion?

Observed that too. Very animated on the touch line. Will be interesting when the two teams square off later in the season. Drama on and off the playing pitch :)

For those who might be interested.

Good results for Man City. Should qualify for UCL with this first

leg result.

As a MU fan, I wish MC could go all the way to the final and lose it.

And hope that their UCL exertion would drain their effort and energy on the home front. [sly] [sly]
