S320 vs 730Li

MB released S320 a few month ago.  BMW launched 730Li this month.  These are scaled down/tuned down versions of their S400 and 740Li respectively.  I think they both retain a 3 litre engine.  Are the savings from S400 and 740Li respectively worth the while given the lower specs?  Any comments on which is better?

Just find which car best suit u. Spec wise depends on whether u need those high end spec.

Fiat500 suit me best !  :D The only Spec I need is my reading glasses.  :secret-laugh:

If for better driving experience, I'd still stick to a base Porsche Panamera with its 3.6L V6.

If only strictly between this two options, the S-class looks more iconic. I dunno what the 7 series design language is trying to get at so I can't appreciate that styling.

S class => u want to be driven

7 series -> u want to drive it

S320 is V6

730 is 2L turbo.

I have seen 730 In Beijing.  Look for the 7 series folder.  i have posted photo of it.

Once open bonnet of 730, really CMI with the 4 pot.

I'm not a fan of large cars, have driven both s class and 7 series I find the s class much easier to drive and guide around tight spots.

also for this range of cars a factor to consider is the presence it commands, again subjective but s class also edges in this area.

7 series is more comfy though for the rear passengers

Wow.. I didn't know 730Li is 2L turbo.  And 4 cylinders? I must say I'm taken aback by such scaling down.

4 pots definitely.  Look at G10/G11 thread.

Although the 730Li come in 4 pot 2.0L form, the spec look pretty decent. Still can qualify for a $5K CEVS rebate!

Engine Capacity: 1,998cc

Max. Horsepower: 258hp @5,000 - 6,500rpm

Max. Torque: 400Nm @1,550 - 4,400rpm

Top Speed: 250Km/h

0 - 100Km/h: 6.3 sec

Fuel Consumption (Combinde): 5.8L/100Km (17.2Km/L)

CO2 Emission: 134g/Km

Yes, I went to read your post in G10/G11 discussion.  Thanks.

Anyone knows the different in specs between S400 and S320?  S350 is diesel, we know.

Why can't they do a 6 pot 2L engine like the old days?  Would a 4 pot be as smooth to drive as a 6 pot?

Because it's less efficient/higher consumption + heavier weight. Technology has moved on alot from the "old days"

The amount of insulation on the new 7? you prob can't hear anything from the engine liao.

(Handling on a new 7 with the lighter 4-pot will be pretty interesting too!)

Yes, it is about efficiency and weight. The earlier generation Nissan Cefiro come in V6 2.0L and many have complained it is a drinker.
