Opel Astra 2016

Hi all, driving Astra, when I stopped at traffic light, should I change to Neutral gear or leave it at D/M?

I am thinking if I use N gear, it won't have first gear half-clutching while waiting for green light, maybe better for the lifespan of the clutch.

I think all cars smoke unless you drive electric greenies. :XD:

So whether you drive QQ or Z will smoke other cars as long as there are some other cars behind which will bound to have.

Nah. I admit I bulls**t and made up all those claims. I’m the one that got smoke by FXT, hack even the Mitz Attrage smoke me. I’m sorry for being such an idiot. Saves myself filming meself doing 0-100 and posting on youtube.

Now everybody happy and Opel doesn’t have to hire me as their chief engineer.

I’m perfectly fine. But you see it from their perspective it is totally insane for a 1 liter car to claim sny kind of performance.

I too was skeptical before I test drove the car. Even while test driving it I was still skeptical especially a 3 cyclinder engine. How smooth can a 3 cyclinder be? Meh.

Remember the days when the Charade GTti rules the roads with 1.0 turbo engine. People dismissed the car right away with the same verdict: how fast can a 1.0 car be? Boy were they wrong. Kallang carpark rally was full of them three wheeling round the corner.

Then came a new era where the EG Civic own the streets. Again people dismissed them with a meh. How fast can these 1.6 NA thin can be. And boy they were so wrong.

The trend is back again with smaller cc engine but this time ever more powerful and efficient. The conti makers have made the move. So are the Japanese. Honda is on the bandwagon. Toyota too starting to move towards small cc engines. Nissan as well. So is Mazda. The only maker left out of the race is Subaru. Still clinging to their overweight cars powered by fuel hungry boxer turbo and beloved AWD.

So let’s just sit back and watch another trend unfold. I bet these trolls were still in kindergarten when the Charades and EGs roam our streets.

I did a SaturnV Stage C-5 upgrade, complete with S-IC first stage; S-II second stage, and 5x J-2 engines all done at LC-39 @ Kennedy Space Center. Technically I can achieve about 225,000 lb of thrust ~ 1,000kN.

Wow, this is in the USA?

Ok, my bad, you are joking.

Bro am not a troll but tbh I have driven the 1.0T and also the FXT. The FXT really feels more powerful. There is no shame in not being as fast as the FXT. it is a more expensive car and Subaru is famous for its engine.

Gear is disengaged when car is stopped and the brake pedal is depressed. No half clutching.

It can be faster for 1.0T Astra for first 10-30m but from that onward, I believe FXT will pick up its speed and reach 100km/hr faster.

Either manual or auto in easytronic, you can't shave 5sec from the clock.

Having said that, it does feel faster when switched to manual mode for the astra 1.0t. Even at 200Nm torque and DSG mode for new golf, the century speed timing is 9.8s. I do not think DSG will shift slower than any manual can do.

because of this full clutch in or clutch out, this is where low speed juddering comes in. It is pronounced in parking, ramp...

THus, torque converter comes in to smooth out the juddering by fluid transfer and slipping mode. Because of this, it saps power, reducing full power transfer from engine to wheel... but with recent advancement in TC auto, its efficiency has improved to above 90% by adopting early lock up of torque converter. This includes subaru lineartronic cvt too. It improves the mpg across subaru range and its rated mpg is even higher than what a MT can do. So it is not true that subaru cvt is not as efficient as clutch based auto gearbox.

Agree. Oblivious folks who continue to preach that visco-coupled automatic transmissions are slower than manuals, are still living in the past ... probably aged-views suspended in time - in the last millennium!

I drive a 1.0 ST. My previous cars were Stream, and a 350 hp Supercharged Altezza.

Bad review? Hmm. I don’t like the road noise. Don’t like the firm ride.

Not sure about getting parts.

But one thing I can tell you is, drive this thing like a MT car.

In MT mode, you smoke most cars on the road. Vezel, Altis, Civic FD, Forester Turbo, most 1.8 and 2.0 car. Can play with other turbo cars but open stretch will lose out to WRX, big cc cars. But traffic light to traffic light or our busy expressway, no problem at all.

Those who stated that the 1.0T is under power are judging the car on paper, and hearsay. Or they drive like a wussy.

you trying to stir shit up by implying I said the car can smoke other turbo cars?

Edited. Ok I see where r u coming from.

But the way you communicate, you are just like another csccb.

No need to reply to me cos I'm not even keen to engage in any discussion or wanna burst ur bubble about ur 1 litre turbo.

I do know what delusion is and I happen to know a few folks like that in this forum
