The 1.0 not available for test drive yet? If the 1.0 drives well enough can just get the 1.0. Cheap road tax and gd fuel economy.

Do note the 1.0 and 1.4 uses diff gearbox. So cannot just assume that 1.0 and 1.4 is just a drop in power.

Agree. Anyone had any experience with the easytronic gearbox from Opel? Seen and heard from reviews that the easytronic is essentially a manual gearbox with the ability to automatically shift the gears. It also seems to shift quite slowly..

Saw the car yday too.. Overall car feels very sturdy & well built.. Price wise competitive. Test driven the 1.4, handling & power feels good.. haven got a chance to test drive the 1.0.. Still can't decide which to go for..

They having a launch at suntec on the 23rd June.. Wondering if they have any special items to throw in

Re small-cc 3-pot TC engine ... test drove the Mini One 5-dr 1.2T 3-cylinder AT ... ran out of breath when torque curve plateaus. Not impressed with the idling engine resonance.

Shortly after, tested the Hyundai Accent hatchback 1.4NA 4-cylinder MT.

Preferred the NA engine's response and imho, quite well mated with the manual tranny.

Yeah looks gd. I worry abt the reliabilty only. If nt alot of buyers i worry abt the availability of parts. Family owned a fiat previously and it was quite bad. Wanna repair also have to wait.

The UK mags' reviews on Opel Meriva's and previous Corsa's long-term reliability had not been good.

Not sure about the new Astra though.

But really, dual cultch???

Dont tink easy tronic is a dual clutch gearbox. Some basic new tech that is cheaper den normal at. If 1.0 is nt good enough. Better go for the 1.4 den.

I always remember my German colleagues mention before that Opel is a brand that does not matter in Germany and always ranked below the Big 3 and sometimes below the other makes as well.

however, I think they have improved by a good leap with this new Astra and provide them a fighting chance. I will go check out the Tourer and see whether it can be shortlisted for next purchase.

Opel is under GM which used to be the no. 1 car manufacturer in the world years ago but now overtaken by Toyota. They are branded Vauxhall in the UK.

I believe they are a B & B brand equivalent to Toyota, VW and Ford but for some reason it has not been well received here. I think the local AD changed hands and thus was not as established as those which have been here for many years and understand our local buyer's requirements?

But with this new Astra, they could penetrate the 1.6l category albeit slowly and I particularly like the look of the saloon which is not here yet.

Looking at the astra also but i doubt there will be many interested buyers. Brand, reliability concerns etc would just stop many ppl from taking a look at it in the showroom.

The build quality is gd and it looks quite gd. So do go down to the showroom. 5yrs warranty to ease reliability concerns.

Yes. Ya right. For those whom been following Opel will realize the local AD change hands and it's the previous AD which causes the owners to starts searching for other brands (including me)

With the new Astra, I've decided to give the brand a chance to try out this brand again.

Test driven both 1.0 & 1.4

Personal preference,

Personal view is that 1.0 is decent for daily drive, the half clutch feeling does exist when moving off.

1.4 6 speed auto is smoother, power is creamier as well.

Size & specs for both variant is same except power & gearbox.

Rear legroom is generous, built quality is there. Well weighted & very sturdy built. Curvy sleek looks which attracts me to it.

Decided to book the 1.4 turbo version. Guaranteed Coe + some other freebies thrown in. My SE is friendly & knowledgeble compare to some other SE which I purchased from in the past by the more reputable 3 pointed star brand. Given me a good deal. Find no reason to say no to the pricing and specs amongst it's league.

Not too sure. You can google it. Sld be inferior to normal AT. Since it is mentioned that this is a budget choice to the normal AT

I understand fr the SE that only hatchback n tourer are coming to sg. No news on the salon.

But tourer looks like passat estate fr the rear. Very swee.. Juz that a bit to big for my liking :)

From understanding it's actually a manual gb without a clutch. Thats y during move off can feel the half clutch feeling. They call it easytronic 3.0.

Can have manual selection for a more engaging drive!! Since it's more or less like a manual, guess maintenance is also cheaper ba..

It dosent have the jerky feel like the older Opel. I used to drive the Zafira 1.8. Abit like horse riding during gear change haha..

I feels that I can be Opel SE liao lol..
