Ok, but what does much better than before mean? That there are still problems with French cars? I came very close to buying the 508. It was great during the test drive and had the space I needed but when it came down to it I couldn't bring myself to buying a 140k car that was just "much better than before." The sales woman kept tryng to convince me that it's an improved car from before, and that they'd resolved the old transmission and other issues they previously had. But I wasn't convinced. When I asked her if they were so confident of it, why not warranty the transmission for ten years? (I believe Kia has done that with their cars to build consumer confidence) Ultimately, reputation does matter, whether it's genuine or perceived, look at VW today, and which is largely why Japanese cars sell so well. For all I know the 508 , that I was considering, is indeed a very good car and their past issues have been addressed and resolved; but to lay down that much money on the word of a salesperson, without backing up the talk with real action, was just too much of a gamble for me. Had Peugeot given me the same kind of warranty as Kia, I might very well have bought it. In the end, I took the chicken exit and went Japanese.

These are good points. But ultimately it depends on what you want from a car, and what makes you feel shiok. I believe it's important to consider whether you feel happy looking at the car, being in the car, or driving the car. At that price point, it can't be about functionality. Otherwise you'd be in the market for the cheapest version of the car in the class your interested in.

Fundamentally buying a car is a very personal decision so you need to lay out what's important to you, and only you. If you have a more cautious personality, and that's fine, your buying considerations will be quite different than someone who's more into aesthetics and really feels happy walking up to his car each day.

For me, when I was in the market for a car a decade ago, I didn't like any of the other designs in my budget. I eventually settled on the Peugeot 107 because I liked the design even though I could have gotten a bigger Korean car for the same price. Years later, I still felt really happy looking at it and driving it. It probably cost me a little more to maintain, but I kept it for 9 years, and I really don't think I spent that much more than other cars (I kept a spreadsheet of everything). Again, I really enjoyed looking and driving that car for that many years.

There's this great thread in HWZ about someone who's thinking about selling his 2 month old Nissan Note because he didn't think through about his own buying considerations properly.

There are also stories about the so-called "reliable" cars facing catastrophic mechanical problems. These things are heng suay I feel, unless it's a well-documented design/manufacturing flaw (like the Peugeot 1007, for example). In the Qashqai thread, which seems to be almost as popular as the Vezel and ppl say is a superb car, there are people sharing how this and that have broken down already. But others haven't faced that, and are quite happy with their purchase.

I guess the TL:DR summary is everyone will have a lot of advice to give, but you need to know yourself at the end of the day. And I think it's rare to get a car that will check every single box so there will be trade-offs.

Hi Guys,

This is my first posting. So far i only read what you guys share.

Thought i'll try some sharing myself.

This is the online manual for the 3008, quite comprehensive 578 pages pdf doc

http://www.autoeurope.com/peugeot-fleet/documents/3008.pdf

If the link does not work, try copy and paste on your browser.

While we wait for the ride to arrive, we can get to know the pug 3008 better.

By the way, i'm waiting for the ultimate red, 1.2 active. I'm expecting delivery end Aug17.

Cheers
