It's very risky to write about your career situation online.

Can you imagine how your colleagues will feel to read this online?

How many PhDs do you know completed their part time Engineering degree in 3.5 years?

There is much more to life than a PhD. Admirable, but just one component.

Seeing some of the replies here, one of them could be his senior here tellinghim of the realities. Lol

I have never heard of people with PhD declare don't have. Even taxi driver with PhD still put leh.

I don't know, coz I am not phd holder. Possible reason not to declare is over qualified lor. It's also up to the person wish to want to put in or not. Maybe for some don't have phd but self declare have phd we also don't know unless we ask for certificate and more details.

Thread Starter has 2-3 cars, one of them is a BMW.  Been able to spend $2K to $4K.  High spender.   Seems rich.  Perhaps he can retire already, and teach in the university part-time to pass time, and take up a hobby or do volunteer work.

Why bother with a dead-end job?

OIC . . .  dinno TS' a sugar coated strawberry, trying to show-off . . .

Hmm. "senior".

Senior is senior mah. U also ish "junior".

If you don't play well with others based on your personality, then find a job whereby u work mostly alone.

I'm sure every single one of us has ate humble pie and had to clear up other people's messes.

You are exactly right. So important to be a team player.

TS should learn from my grandfather. He worked above 500

People and not one of them ever gave him any problems.

He used to be the grass cutter at the CCK cemetery.

He used to always take leave during Cheng Beng.

the rest have said it all.

I have worked with those who have a pHD.  Do not generalise all of them to be like ts, with the 'lim peh ka le kong attitude' as some are really down to earth.  However a good 50% have that entitlement mentality where they feel they cannot or should not do menial tasks due to the educational acheivements they have attained.  Sorry, the working world is different.

That said, one may have a pHD, but still unable to teach.  I hv come across many tht are unable to.  Also, the institutions now are looking for those with work and relevant experience.  They may have the flair for research, etc, but real world practical experience counts to zilch if it is not put to use.

ts should really take a look at his own values and get off his high horse and realise that the real deal is 'putting food on the table'

Wow, thanks for all the comments, good or bad, appreciate.

Just to clarify,

1. I did not say my seniors are useless. I do not think they are. In fact, we have some of the brightest people I have seen within the same tiny office space we share. We also have some who just come to work for coming to work. It just happen that we are working on new things, but who isn't when it is research.

2. I am not complaining about the salary. To me...well, anyway the money I spend don't come from my job. What I am trying to say is that I don't think my expectation is high. I just want to find a job and do something meaningful, while turning myself into a better and more useful person.

3. I think I work well with people, generally. Though my peers sometimes do ask me why am I such a yes man. I just thought every chance is a chance to learn.

4. I am NOT PROUD to be a PhD. In fact, I was ashamed about it for a moment in life. It just didn't turn out to be as meaningful and world changing as I thought. Had the feeling that it was vague and a little fake.

Just wondering, if a higher degree is omitted from a resume, will there usually be any repercussion if the employer were to find out later?

There's really no need to omit this from your resume, some employers are not going to give you a higher salary just because you have a Ph.D., especially so if the job u r applying for does not requires it

To be successful in interview, first thing is to be confident of yourself and your ability

It takes more than education to have a successful careers (outside of academic, research based type of career, govt related), beyond a certain level, this isn't even a consideration anymore

It takes a combi of capability and luck to secure a good job

Be patient and jump ship when there's a good opportunity

All the best
