Uninitiated 1st Gear March 24, 2018 Share March 24, 2018 So I went down earlier. I am currently on a 3er so my interest is more on Veloce and Quad. Agree that getting in and out is tougher (doesn't help I am a heavy-set man). But the interior is really sleek and refreshing. Feels like 3er and Audi again! EA says only 12 Quad are allocated to SG, and they have seen 3 M3 owners switching over to Quad. They are also very particular about giving test drive in Quad too. I was offered a test drive in Veloce (didn't take it up) but not for the Quad. Haha.

Razzd 3rd Gear April 4, 2018 Share April 4, 2018 (edited) Brace yourselves, potential Alfisti-to-be I was at EA today to test drive the Giulia Veloce with a friend. All i can say is, the Veloce doesn't disappoint. Press the start button at the steering wheel and the needles sweep up and down in an opening ceremony. Ok, maybe it's nothing special to some of you; my car has it too but somehow it adds to the atmosphere because its an ALFA. The infotainment display is clear, bright and high contrast. Check out the Alfa badge.. IMG_2397.JPG Moving off, it is smooth and ride is pliant. The driver's seat and front passenger seat is semi bucket and very well padded and comfortable unlike the lousy 3 series. Gear changes without fuss and response was snappy. Noise insulation is good. The ride is comfortable even at Dynamic mode with the adaptive suspension stiffening. Didn't have a chance to test the cornering capabilities as the route didn't allow so. Acceleration is brutal (at least for me who've never owned a 5.7s car before), and on Dynamic mode i can hear the blips and feel the "jerk" when shifting just like how the selespeed behaves, but much milder. When decelerating and downshifting, the throttle blips too but not to the effect of the farting sound from the DSGs. From 0 km/h and flooring off the lights, there's still a slight delay but it's more like 1/2 a second only. The paddle shifters are such a joy to use, the tactility is just nice and Alfas must be driven with paddle shifters for the maximum experience. The car is fully loaded.. Blind Spot Monitoring, Collision Prevention Assist, Lane Departure Warning, front 4 pot Brembos with 330mm discs, 19" signature wheels, Adaptive Suspension, Passive Entry (driver's seat moves back when you open the door), Apple Carplay / Android Auto, Harman Kardon Audio, MECHANICAL rear LSD (Q2), reverse camera amongst others. Waiting to try the Super when it is ready in March. For now, the Veloce is priced rather attractively. Come July there will be additional 10k VES increase due to the 5th pollutant being factored in. Eagerly waiting for the first few owners of the Veloce to post their pix and FR soon! Below are pix of the Giulia "Base" Trim, not the Veloce. There's a "Super" trim which has 2 tail pipes. Rims are not this; it will be 16" for the Base and 17" for the Super. IMG_2411.JPG IMG_2413.JPG IMG_2416.JPG IMG_2419.JPG IMG_2426.JPG IMG_2422.JPG Bro Theoldjaffa, Thanks for a very comprehensive review. I have been following this thread with much interest, and intend to go test drive the Veloce one day at EA. I've also been reading the reviews online on the AR Giulia, notably the Veloce trim and of course, the not too shabby Super trim. As you've mentioned about the Giulia's Instrument cluster's "opening ceremony", I can attest to that, as my previous Subaru Legacy GT (BP9) from 2007 had that and I absolutely loved it. A class above. Definitely. I think AR is on the right track. From their heydays as champs, to how the brand name nearly got wiped off the face of the earth, only to come back, like Rocky, aplomb and with a fighting chance to win. It may not be a BMW or a Mercedes beater, but other makes have to "wake up" and take notice, as AR has risen from the ashes and they are resurrected... theory_87 3rd Gear April 5, 2018 Share April 5, 2018 To me viewing in flesh, Giulia design give me a solid built quality feeling. I like how the screen is integrated into the dash and the interior look doesn't feel plasticky like 3 series or XE. The placement of the ignition button and the large aluminium make me feel like being in a Ferrari. The drive for base model and Veloce is quite different. Veloce suspension is much more settled with the active damper and the drive much more powerful. The zf8 gearbox can be smoother in gear transition but I guess AR tune it this way to give the car a more sporty feel. Certainly a breath of fresh air given the compact luxury segment on our road is dominated by the three german brands and a car that will make peoples' head turn.

Yes I like the kick in the butt feeling during shifting on sports mode and full throttle and the smooth shifting during normal driving.
Mockngbrd Supersonic April 5, 2018 Share April 5, 2018 "doesn't feel plasticky like 3 series" Really? I found the buttons to be more plastic-y and the button press action to be less solid den the big 3 Germans. ↡ Advertisement
