Hi old birds.

Does the chg batt at 50% disc within 2 years work even though car is out of warranty period?

I first chg the batt at 23 maths when car was under 3 year warranty.

Than can I change this batt when the 2 year period is almost up even though the car is out of the 3 year warranty period?

Hi Wild,

No .. these discounts are from 1st day of ownership.

Since car out of 3 yr warranty means out of battery discount validity period of 1 and 2 yrs.

Cheers.

Richard

Just a quick update. I changed my battery today at Loke Yang TC Autoclinic. No discount, full price paid was 267.50 (250+GST). Just fyi for anyone wanting to know the price of battery change... :-)

Hi carowner,

High price of 267.50 is due to use of agm type battery tanchong cos the usual efb stock one is inadequate for inherent charging design ..brand is all fiamm.

For next change, pls consider varta silver agm which is top of the line at outside ws since battery is a consumable and no concern on warranty .. it is probably about sgd50 to 80 more.

Cheers.

Thanks Richard for the info. Yeah, will keep that in mind next time.

Hopefully though, this battery will last another 1.5 to 2 years, when I plan to change the car again. I am always a bit worried to drive a car, beyond its warranty period, be it 3 years or 5 years or more. Warranty gives me a peace of mind that I am willing to pay for. so hopefully by June 2020, when my current ride is out of the Nissan warranty, I will start looking for another ride.. :-) I like to buy a couple year old car.. nicely driven to solve any teething issues and still under a few years warranty for peace of mind...

Baphomet,

French cars generally are well designed and asthetically pretty but their engines somehow are not as rugged compared to German or Japanese. Lets say that buyers can easily fall in love with them because their cars are romantic and highly seductive.

The QQ1.2T comes with a HRA Renault engine turbo charged giving 114bhp comes under Cat A.

Whereas QQ2.0L comes with a Nissan M20 NA engine giving 142 bhp comes under Cat B.

The Nissan M20 engine is a proven workhorse thus pretty reliable and should generally provide trouble free driving experiences.

As for the Renault HRA engine and its turbo-charged performance, it is best you read up on the earlier parts of this thread to fix your conclusions. Also check out the SGM car buyers reviews for a better feel.

Buyers who have budget constraints generally buy the 1.2T version, but if you do not have budget limitations, I should say the QQ2.0L should be a no-brainer.

Just my thoughts but it is best you do you due diligence before parting with your $$$.

Thanks Cashcow for your advise! Really appreciate it!

Haha, agree that french cars are sexy!  [gorgeous]  But it gave me years of heartache.

I will probably go for the 2.0 L variant then. I would prefer a more reliable car, especially when its going to be driven mainly by my wife.

Hi Bap,

Looks nice and nice compliant ride .. pls only take 2.0l if already decided on qashqai which is fine ifnok with space.

Cheers.

Richard

Thanks Richard!

Yup, probably will go with the 2.0 L.

Don't know why, but my wife just loved the Qashqai Design.  [:p]

Hi Bap,

Most welcomed and not surprised with your wife's liking it .. as said, nice looking and manageable sized SUV but do ask her to test drive again and if ok with blind spot due to A pillar when engaging turns especially mscp and typically shorter body of ladies.

Also ensure rear space is ok .. it is not a forester.

Cheers.

For the money, you may want to look at the new RAV4, and also the Subaru XV...

Hi therock,

Indeed and hence only commented if indeed he is settled on qashqai.

Toyota service, arguably bigger ride than even my forester xt and at 118k if I remember correctly for the FL version that one qashqai bro jumped ship to and collected his ride 2 weeks ago, I would do the same ... qashqai at iron fist pricing of tanchong is not VFM but not sure if Rav4 has the same nice conti compliant ride since I did not test drove it.

For XV, the aesthetic aspects and dumb dumb no solar film on front windscreen does not make it to my recommendation list even though significant cheaper and with all the bells and whistle gadgetry.

Cheers,

Richard

I've not settled on QQ actually. Just shortlisted as potential target as wife likes it. I'm actually also looking at Mazda CX5.  I did not mention other makes as I thought this is a QQ thread so try to stick to the theme.  [:)]

I'm open to any crossover/suv as long as its reliable and preferably Japanese.

I used to own a Mazda, it never gave me any problem in my 8 years+ of ownership. I've never need to change or fix anything other then the regular tires, brake pads, filters, battery, etc. So I was rather impressed with their reliability...especially after owning a Peugeot now..  :ouch-it-hurts:

I was actually looking at the XV too.

I'm not knowledgeable in cars, just heard some hearsay that Subaru not reliable and high maintenance cost. Not sure if its true though.

Hey guys! intended to install car air purifier in my car. anyone has any idea was does this actually cause battery to drain faster? my typical ride to and fro work is 1hr each journey. anyone using it?

normal car i think no issue, but seems like qq has been given quite a bad rating for charging circuit

Hi Weiqiang,

Surely drain a bit more but I am pretty sure not of significant impact on already seemingly lacking charging circuitry.

Just ensure that it is not connected to one of the cigarette lighter socket that does not turn off i.e. permanently on ... if not already aware.

Cheers,

Richard

Hi Bap,

Go for Rav4 instead of CX5 if not fixed on Qashqai 2.0  ... the reportedly lux feel of mazda 6 of at least the executive option that exceeds Audi A3/4 after having test drive them extensively is not apparent in CX5 with sports threading of seat (orange ??) which is understandable since SUV mkt is not sedan.   It is also more noisy than the mazda 6 since engine is nearer to driver and front passenger .... and mazda engine is already not the most polished and is vocal under a bit of spirited driving.

Please go test drive both and quite hard to doubt Toyota's reliability and also Borneo's Service centre ... not sure of the price but should be close or RAV4 is even slightly cheaper ... please let us know.

Cheers,

Richard

Richard,

I don't think the current Rav4 will handle as well as your Forester.

And if Toyota why not  also consider the Harrier HT?

Hi Andrew,

Perhaps .. keke .. especially with awd of forester but forester is also not without its issues, mainly due to its design intent of being nearer to a terrain vehicle with compromised road ride comfort.

Typical toyota had never been touted as a car for roadholding which I believe Honda holds the crown among typical MIJ rides along perhaps with mazda.

Indeed Harrier Turbo aka HT which incidently killed the RAV4 with then 1.5 yr pricing is an alternative but while not sure of latest, the lowest version I am aware of with fabric should still be >15k more today then latest RAV4.

Also, Harrier is quite boring in towkay sense since the design is somewhat similar to older preFL non turbo Harrier that is probably 5 yrs old against brand new and more exciting RAV4 but ymmv and yes, HT with 350Nm and 220+ bhp will be hard to beat.

Dunno, I am glad no longer looking for new ride and contented now with my forester xt.

Cheers.

Richard

You are right! The Harrier is 15k more than the Rav4. I am quite surprised because when the Harrier HT first came out, the Rav4 was almost the same price as the Harrier. my bad.

I would have got the mazda 6 for her. But she fancy SUVs more..

While I agree with what Richard said about the CX-5, I think you should still test drive it.
