Some dun like the diesel clatter. Coupled with the high diesel car road tax, may not make sense to buy one since the petrol version is usually much cheaper than an equivalent diesel one, like 1.6 tdi vs 1.2 TSI.

Hope Vertex will price the Seat hatches competitively..

If too high , many will go for the BM 116d..

Hope never say anything wrong if not that self proclaimed BM guru will kpkb here.. I guarantee u..

Diesel version is great for those models with underpowered engine, but the sharan/alhambra petrol engine is anything but underpowered.

there are 1.4tsi versions .... just not brought into sg

Diesel hybrids seems to make perfect sense ie diesel is super efficient for highway driving but less so for city driving, and hybrid is great for city driving but not so much for highway... Diesel is noisy in city but quiet on the highway and hybrid is quiet in the city.

Just in case anyone else was wondering why there aren't too many diesel hybrids around...

Oh .. so they stop the 2L, that's a pity.

no lah... there are 1.4 and 2.0 versions for petrol. only the latter was brought in previously

now even the 2.0 model also unavailable since they(including the gti mk7) were pulled after the diesel gate scandal

For Alhambra / Sharan, the following engine options are currently available in other part of the world.

Petrol

1.4 TSI, 150ps, 250Nm

2.0 TSI, 220ps, 350Nm

Diesel

2.0 TDI, 115ps, 280Nm

2.0 TDI, 150ps, 340Nm

2.0 TDI, 184ps, 380Nm

Back in Singapore, pre-facelift Sharan is available in 2.0TSI as standard, with brief introduction and sales of 1.4TSI & 184ps 2.0TDI (probably just 1 or 2 shipment). No further details on engine availability for facelift Sharan yet (which is target to be introduced in Nov), but high likely 2.0TSI is the one to expect, given that 1.4 TSI is not well received previously, and VW is still recovering from the diesel gate scandal.

Alhambra, as confirmed by the sales manager of Vertex Euro, will be introduced here (next month) only in diesel, but with 2 output option, i.e. 150ps & 184ps.

Bro Enye, I think you mix up already lah. Diesel gate only affect diesel model, 2.0 TSI engine not affected at all. In current VW Sg lineup, there are still 2.0 Passat, CC, Tiguan, etc. Sharan sales was stopped due to introduction of facelift model in Europe last year (and yah, it take VW 1 full year to bring it over to Singapore). As for Golf, it is all the while available with a higher spec 2.0 version, known as Golf R.

Not really true, I recall the emission tests were found to be rigged even for some TSI models, like 2.0TSI. Edited by Wattokkingu
