Wrong, Japanese and European car manufacturers have as much experience in turbo and placing them in mass-manufactured petrol cars. It's a matter of what the markets want and most of which are influenced by govt policies. Europe were first to incentivise smaller displacements, while penalise larger displacement all due to air pollution as in almost all cases, higher displacement = higher carbon footprint. Europe's push to diesel is also motivated by carbon-reducing and nowadays turbo diesel engine are much refined.

In fact, other than exotic supercars, Japanese manufacturers were earlier to put turbo engines in mass production cars aimed at the masses. The first mitsubishi evo 1 in 1992 was mass manufactured and came with turbo engine in 1992, the toyota starlet turbo came even earlier in 1989. BMW's 3 series sedan only adopted turbo petrol in 2006, the A4 in 1994, volvo s60 in 2000. If you talk about turbo diesel, it has been in toyota and honda's trucks even earlier. Most, if not all european car manufacturers do not make their own petrol engine turbochargers Toyota and Mitsubishi manufacture their own. There is also no such thing as "best engine to turbo charge" is diesel or petrol, it all boils down to uses and specific functions. "Best" depends on the type of situations one intends to use, since both can be TC, one needs to make a case why one engine is superior to the other, and it all boils down to uses and in many countries, tax.

Turbo charging inevitably results in higher heat and higher heat results in higher fail rates therefore the cooling efficiency of a turbo setup is almost as important and complex as the turbocharger itself.

This 1989 turbo starlet still running and for sale in UK.

Believe what you want brother. Sure, you are right. I'm sure since I'm a newbie I can't say that you're wrong as I'll likely be banned and considered rude. But you can say "wrong". No problem. Edited by 9xBrucie

The boxer sits low with the all time awd has very good traction. They just need to improve fc but looks like they choose to remove the turbo and slap in cvt...ok lets not go off topic here. ;) Edited by Earthboy

I think he meant recent years, Subaru seem to be going in a weird direction.

Take for example the Legacy BL/P (sedan/wagon)  5/9, comes with option of 2.0/2.5 turbo and NA, 5 speeder AT. Those were the hey days.

 Recent years Legacy became a hulking soul-less sedan with only a slow boring gruntless 2.5NA and CVT.

What u talking? Remove the turbo and slap the CVT?

Oh no ..at least 35k difference but forrester look bad and interior is not exactly desirable ..keke. Still vfm and 1st choice

BM has released the pricing. $149,988 for Premium grade and $7k more for Luxury grade. There is no Elegance grade?

Looks like PIs will have a hard time clearing their existing pre-facelift stock.

Hi Sharinganez, do not have the temporary sales brochure with me but off my head:

- napa leather seats

- expected some different finishing in some interior features

- all electric seats with memory feature ... premium should be on electric for driver without memory

Both have moon/sun roof and electric tailgate unlike the elegence model but all with same newly introduced safety features.

I do look forward to the luxury version as I find the premium exhibit during the LengKee showroom not so premium.

Cheers,

Richard

What is the pricing of RAV4 in relation to the Harrier Turbo?

RAV4 pricing was out of the world the last I checked in June 2016 when doing my rounds of comparing all the Jap/Korean SUVs.....

Little wonder I can count with my one hand the number of new RAV4 I saw on the road the last 1 year.

Received the brochure from the sales person.

Luxury = Nappa leather along with power seat for passenger + memory

7 years warranty for the luxury model

7k, to me, doesn't seem justifiable for the differences.

Moreover, major servicing by Borneo during the 5th - 6th year going to cost in thousands

Just checked, net price

Premium =  $149, 888, 5 yrs warranty

Luxury = $ 156,888

memory seat, nappa leather and ventilated seat along with 7 years warranty.

All comes with 3 yrs free servicing.

Those that pre-booked, prices the same or cheaper?

Even with COE price fall by 3k, Forester XT price remains the same at $121, 800. Hmmmm
