What's new - when comes to Singapore, everything we have to be the 1st or the No.1.

UN body on Tesla: Singapore likely to be only nation factoring carbon emission from grid for EVs

http://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/singapore/un-body-on-tesla/2589878.html

The LTA appears to have applied the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) R101 correctly when assessing the carbon emission of a used Tesla Model S recently, said Mr Jean Rodriguez, Chief of the Information Unit at UNECE.

However, LTA also appears to be the only national regulator to have included power grid emission into the evaluation of electric vehiclesâ (EVs) carbon footprint, he added.

I find it more interesting that unec statement indicate that indeed the tesla electrical consumption eroded so bad after 2 years???

even tesla electrical consumption is that bad after 2 years

why charge "grid emission carbon tax"

if the battery is no good ... the owner will pay for super high electricity bill (incl carbon tax)

if want to apply grid emission carbon tax ... must apply carbon tax to all "usage" of electricity?

where electricity bill has already incl carbon tax ... is this double charge? hmm ... sounds familiar

The thing wasn't about why charge. The thing was because there is a fine and reward system for green and ungreen car.

Unless there is only reward for green car and no punishment. Then it make sense. But with UN pressuring Singapore to do something at least symbolically about promoting clean and demoting unclean car. U have this tax and rebate issue.

Seriously, why Come bother a small country like ours.

Anyway, if u say double taxation it apply to petrol cars that had to pay the fine too.

don't play play ... sekali kena slapped carbon tax on charging iPhone in the name of "reducing carbon footprint" then you know

Some countries already have similar tax, known as "Carbon Credit".

Tesla Needs Cash Injection To Deliver On The Model 3

RBC analyst Joseph Spak said the company may not be able to deliver a big number of the orders it has already received before 2019 or 2020. “Demand was never really our concern", he told CNBC/Reuters. "It is more about execution and getting production up to meet demand."

At the same time, he concedes high demand could be a factor in the company becoming cash-flow positive. This will help it to increase its capacity at the existing plant in California and complete the construction of the battery gigafactory in Nevada – both essential if it is to hit its sales target.

The very same day Musk tweeted his excitement, Tesla stock price hit its highest mark in six months, which was also 60 percent higher than a 12-month low in February.

Bottom line: the Model 3 is such a big endeavor it will either make or break Tesla. If it gets the money, it’ll be the former. If not…

Just an aside - Can please not shorten the name?

It is a Model 3 or Tesla Model 3 -

If start calling it an M3 it has a different implication and more thinking has to be applied - raising the prospect of confusion

For those who place a deposit - would you still go ahead to buy Model 3 if COE price increased to 60-90K during the time when M3 is released?

Maybe Tesla need to put Model 3 on Kickstarter....

M III then.

Even COE 60K. still under 200k, I can forget about WRX at the same price! Some more higher PARF. Similar class as 335i, S4.

yeah, but once you start adding options the price is gonna shoot up. And I can think of quite a few options that is worthwhile to add-on.

No one knows how VICOM / LTA arrived at that figure to claim a 2-years old Tesla S battery is that lousy...

Even Elon was curious too...and with niceties aside, I guess he must be pretty pissed and called PM Lee questioning our official transport "expertise" .

...and I am not even referring to our "World Class" MRT. [:p]

Let me ask my grandma if she kenna carbon-tax for charging her ride...

...if got, then bye bye to her Pioneer Gen "gift" she received just last year..

true... but assuming if Tesla allows reservations from SG, it's safe to say they will be arranging with the vehicle import and stuff... We can let Tesla handle it with SG authorities..

It's not clear at this stage if the cost quoted on Tesla's site at the point of vehicle customization  includes additional tax and charges like ARF, Excise Duty, etc.. But it wouldn't make sense for Tesla to expect buyers to separately pay/handle the additional SG charges on their own - that would piss potential buyers off...

It's not unfeasible for Tesla to jump the gun. Say they are bringing in first to attract interest, then figure out all the other stuff later.

They're not really a conventional company in the normal sense. I think at this point they are only assuming everything will be shun shun (smooth and problem free), but we all know that's probably not the case. Expect a lot of red tape and bureaucratic nonsense before the car gets approved to go on sale here.

Remember they did it once before. Come in then exit within six months because cannot get their required grants.

not sure if Musk and LHL talk will get the ball rolling with the STAT Boards.

LHL told them to re-look into it.

they won't try to make it harder to give LHL some face.

let's wait and see.

with changes happening in the industry, will we remain stuck and cannot change?

Hopefully LHL will knock some sense into the authorities.

Although I am disappointed with their official reply and flabbergasted by their explanations, moral of this story is to buy NEW EV cars!! Don't ghey kiang buy a second hand EV and import into SG. Although I symphatize with Joe, he should have originally bought a new Model S if he could afford it.

There's no way he could have bought a new Model S and bring it in. Unless you buy straight from factory (which is impossible cos it'll be LHD), any car you import personally (i.e. not via dealer) will be declared as a used car.
