An EgyptAir domestic flight with 81 people travelling from Alexandria to Cairo landed in Cyprus with a suspected bomb on board after being hijacked, according to the airline's spokesman and Cypriot officials.

maybe he want to crash the plane into Israel as hijackers detained the crew. 

CYBC said the airplane was parked at an apron at Larnaca airport. The hijacker asked police to back away from the aircraft, it said.

I would say terrorists blowing themselves up is the worst cos the impact on countless by-standers getting killed is such a tragic waste and there is no sense in doing this, just creating a headline without any cause I feel though they will feel there is a cause.

 

Whilst not condoning hijackers, they normally do it for a specific cause, secure release of their leader, comrades or demanding something in return. Guess its choosing between 2 devils!!

Ruth Michaelson in Cairo has a response from Egypt’s foreign ministry about the reports of the hijacker’s supposed motive:

Officials at Egypt’s ministry of foreign affairs responded to reports that the hijacker’s motives are personal, saying they were aware of the reports that he is seeking asylum and discussing his ex wife. “He’s not a terrorist, he’s an idiot. Terrorists are crazy but they aren’t stupid. This guy is,” they said.

I have taken some of these african airlines and the security measures at some of the airports in these countries are really no holds barred.

 

Having said that, the Egyptian airline is considered one of the better ones around.
