BlitzStryker 2nd Gear February 16, 2017 Share February 16, 2017 Scrapped my 10 years old Impreza last year, the ride, road-holding confidence and road feel is better than my newer vezel hybrid.AWD is really a nice bonus to have and play around, especially in the rain or in wide and empty carparks. Would love to have a Impreza again. All the best to the new Impreza drivers. Enjoy your rides. Cheers. ↡ Advertisement

jg2000 4th Gear February 16, 2017 Share February 16, 2017 I heard that the servicing and maintenance cost for Subaru is generally high. The parts are more expensive than other Jap brands. Is it true? Any existing Subaru bros to share? Not the most expensive nor the cheapest for the authorised dealer maintainance charges. Somewhere in the middle. You can go to MI website to find their PDF of how much they charge. Subaru 1.6 engine also the simplest among all SUVs. No direct injection nor turbo. Easier to maintain and less things to fail. Anyway, Subaru reputation is that it is quite hardy. In the US supposed to last long.
tatming01 Neutral Newbie February 17, 2017 Share February 17, 2017 Went to see them again, and finally decided to get the 1.6 version. Difference: 2.0 and 1.6 only performance difference due to engine's capacity, body kits and the gear shifters(available on 2.0 and not 1.6). No choice already, my current car already in hospital and left up to May 2017. Pretty good value among the rest, IMO after some comparisons and considerations for the following makes: 1) Mitsubishi Lancer/Attriage - Last gen ago overalls, Jap alike interiors 1.1) Exterior: 2.5/5 1.2) Interior: 2/5 1.3) Engine: -IDK- (never test drove) 1.4) Drive: -IDK- 2) Toyota Altis - Balanced 1/2 gen ago overalls, Jap alike interiors 2.1) Exterior: 4/5 (Conservatively modern look, have wow factor comparing to its previous model) 2.2) Interior: 3/5 (Typical Toyota style with some gadgetry upgrades, dashboard a little too high, have the "hindering" field of view, esp when objects are closer feeling, maybe I'm just not used to higher dashboards) 2.3) Engine: 3/5 (Very balanced gear ratio) 2.4) Drive: 3/5 (Comfy very typical Jap car driving feel. May not be too comfortable for long distance driving) 3) Mazda 3 - Best looking exterior award with Euro alike interiors, worrying engine response [to get out of dangerous or nasty situations, reacts after 0.5 - 1s after squeezing the paddle] and able to feel the roll when engaging a sharper turn in faster speeds) 3.1) Exterior: 5/5 (Wow... and Wow! They've definitely done something right in this department) 3.2) Interior: 3.5/5 (Better than Altis good touch on the additional display at the driver seat, innovative) 3.3) Engine: 2/5 (Under powered and slow response) 3.4) Drive: 2/5 (Felt unsafe when it comes to sharper turns with speed and the need for emergency power to get out of situations, cross between Jap and Euro car driving feel) 4) Kia K3 - Balanced 1/2 gen ago overalls, Euro alike interiors (Best tech among these, but, lower end than Impreza) 4.1) Exterior: 3.5/5 (Front design have mixed reviews among my friends, either u like or don't like. Loved the back, esp the not blinding break lights) 4.2) Interior: 3.5/5 (The best among all, ventilated seats (only KIA has for this range), more gadgets among these) 4.3) Engine: 3/5 (More balanced similar to the Altis but, feels that Altis is just slightly more powerful) 4.4) Drive: 3/5 (Comfy very typical Jap and a little Euro car driving feel. May be more comfortable for long distance driving compared to Altis) 5) Chev Cruze 5.1) Exterior: 3.5/5 (Nice overall masculine look) 5.2) Interior: 2.5/5 (A little more plastic feel, feels a little last gen too) 5.3) Engine: -IDK- 5.4) Drive: -IDK- 6) WV Jetta 6.1) Exterior: 3/5 (Just a little modernization from its previous model, still nice, but no Wow factor) 6.2) Interior: 2.5/5 (Feels last gen ago, but, knowing WV already a very good jump) 6.3) Engine: 3.5/5 (Powerful turbo engine, worring gearbox and mechanics issue, bursts holes in your pocket the size of f**king Jupiter) 6.4) Drive: 4/5 (Amazing, solid feel entering and exiting tighter turns. Fast response upon pedal squeeze, feels like manual car response, just a slight bit slower. I'm driving a manual car now) 7) Honda Civic 7.1) Exterior: 4.5/5 (Very good looking, especially the break lights, out of conventional, done it right too) 7.2) Interior: 2.5/5 (Current gen gadgets with left side blind spot detector) 7.3) Engine: -IDK- 7.4) Drive: -IDK- 8) Subaru Impreza Feb 2017 8.1) Exterior: 4/5 (Big design restyle since it's last version, IMO better looking than Altis and KIA) 8.2) Interior: 5/5 (Better than current gen gadgets with both side side blind spot detector, double screen infotainment system, tyre pressure gauge) 8.3) Engine: 4/5 (IMO, good balance between power and comfort when you need it. Of course, not as powerful as Jetta. 8.4) Drive: 4.5/5 (Jap car but, drive feels like Euro car. SImilar to Jetta feel) IMO, I'm a light footer so, the current Feb 2017 Impreza with more focused gear ratio towards the low and highs is a lil too powerful for me. Was offered $97,800 and comes with the following: 1. Warranty 1.1 Mechanical parts, 5 years, Example, gear box and engine 1.2 Electrical parts, 2 years, Example, infotainment systems, etc. 1.3 General T&C applies, Example, excludes wear and tear 2. Accessories 2.1 Solar films, and also darker at the back side of the car 2.2 Mats (which I courteously declined, easily get a set from Malaysia cheaply. And I do Synthetic Grasses, I'll customer cut and put synthetic grass as car mats for my cars. Really nice and refreshing to see some greens in the car. Even though, it's actually fake. Haha..) 2.3 Front Cam (which I courteously declined as well. Value of approx. SGD 200 ++, could easily be done outside and not too complex to do. Anyway, previously bought a car mirror set equipped with front cam behind the mirror and back cam from China and yet to use.) 2.4 Swapped 2.2 & 2.3 for the following as I feel, it's safer to be done as Subaru in case 3rd party workshops did a bad job: 2.4.1 Auto car lock + beeps when you lock and unlock your car worth $300 ++ (Please be more discrete about this as this is a bro, bro arrangement with him and I'm not supposed to say out that openly.) 2.5 Additional item bought with the "Duo Points" after purchasing the car 2.5.1 Collapsible side mirrors as you turn of the car and start the car. 3. Need to get from Subaru to enjoy above price 3.1 Loan @ 70%, 7 years 3.2 Insurance (NCD + 5% rebates provided) 3.3 Non-guaranteed COE Bidding, 8 times. 4 Delivery/Lead-time 4.1 Only arrive Singapore around Mid March 2017 and possible to get your hands on the wheels by end March/early April due to clearances. 4.2 If COE bidding bo dio, than have to wait longer. The audio system Subaru is better than the rest too. However, I'm quite particular(can say I'm an audiophile) about music as it helps me to distress. Hopefully, able to get my active subwoofer to work in this car. Will test out Ah Meng found in this forum and revert if there's any thing. Hope the above helps! P.S. After writing, I think I can be a car reviewer leh! HAHA! Hi Jonnyx. What's the version u booked? 4D or 5D?
Kah178 1st Gear February 17, 2017 Share February 17, 2017 (edited) my SE said the account will only be activated after the car is regiestered.i am already a Duo memeber as currently driving Nissan car. Anyway, you should be able to get your friends to be the referral. 50000 Duo points can exchange for 2yrs free servicing (i think). Don't leave money on the table. 999 3rd Gear February 17, 2017 Share February 17, 2017 glad to hear it works. I have also installed AA, but can't install arm64 even though my phone is 64 bits, so have to settle it with arm. I'm using Sony so issue with Arm 64. BTW, your SE want me to let you know it works, so now you know..lol..
Jonnyx 1st Gear February 17, 2017 Share February 17, 2017 999:Think about it this way. 2 Wheel drive is 12Km/L, so 4WD/AWD is double so FC should be double, meaning only 6Km/L. If u get anthing better than 6KM/L u got a bargain. bash me if u like! Where got dare to pong u.. u 999 leh.. later i see steel bars rather than the new steel chassis. HAHA! Btw, on the test drive, i remember seeing 12-13km/l guess FC is quite reasonable after reading what you've wrote. jg2000: Platform is mainly a welded chunk of metal with no moving parts - unlikely to have any major problem. 1.6L engine seems almost no change from last generation - so again, likely not much to worry about. FC for CVT is always very poor for drivers new to CVT. Depending on how fast you learn/adapt to it, you will find it will improve quite significantly over time. Nowadays for highway driving, can easily reach 7liter/100km or 14.3 km/l and sometimes down to 6.5liter/100km or 15.4km/liter in my XV. Others have done even better at 5+liter/100km. Also, Subaru boxer engines need a bit of driving and a few servicing to lossen up. So FC continues to improve even after 20K. jg2000: You don't need wet driving to enjoy the AWD. Even on dry roads and esp. when you do twisty roads, you can feel the difference. So, this is probably why I felt that this car is quite sturdy and well grounded when I did a higher speed turn. Plus, the car doesn't shake that much while driving too. Only vibrates a little after you begin to move off at the red light (engine auto off after you stop feature what's the name again? lol).. Guess, longer "seasoning" means a more constant and consistent engine? Because it takes longer to loosen up. I'm very sure "I like her wet better" HAHAHA! Kah178wow, drop from $101.8k to $97.8k within 1 month. Kah178:How much you are paying for the AIG insurance? Mine is $1.5k after 50% NCD Quite understandable as they want to push hard and put this car on the road as their latest and first flagship car for marketing and strategy purposes. News is, they're gona raise this price by $1,000 or more by end of today 17/02/16. TBH, IDK about the insurance. It didn't bother me that much as there's a rebate +5% for it. Anyway, after 1 year can change + and - should be slightly higher only ba.. wdldalian:I heard that the servicing and maintenance cost for Subaru is generally high. There is no GPS system on the infotainment system but you don't need it since it has Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. What these 2 things do is allow you to display and control some of your phone apps from the car infotainment system. So you just use Google Maps from your phone displayed on the car infotainment system as your car GPS app. However, for me, I still prefer to see direct from the phone that is attached on a phone holder at the screen since this allows you to see the GPS and the keep an eye on the road at the same time.
