ins1dious Turbocharged March 1, 2016 Share March 1, 2016 Bugatti have revealed the Chiron... which replaces the Veyron. New car has 1,500bhp pumped out of it's W16, costs over 2.5m US and is limited to top speed of 261mph. Those headlights remind me of the old Alfa RZ/SZ... here's some blurb from theverge giving details of the speakers in this Chiron. Quote As if 1,500 horsepower, a $2.6 million price tag, and two metric tons of carbon fiber, aluminum, titanium, glass, and leather weren't enough to set the Bugatti Chiron apart, this new supercar also comes with speaker tweeters made out of diamonds. Each of the four tweeters in the car features a one-carat diamond membrane for what's supposed to be unsurpassed precision and aural fidelity. The company recruited by Bugatti to provide these ultra exclusive speakers is Accuton, and it has a helpful explainer of the benefits of using diamond as a material for reproducing high-frequency sound. It's an established fact that traditional loudspeaker cones suffer from distortion when pushed to their limits, which has led companies to experimenting with either exotic materials or entirely different technologies, such as with planar magnetic headphones. But diamonds? What were the alternatives considered when designing these tweeters, unobtainium and kryptonite? ↡ Advertisement

Hydrocarbon Turbocharged March 1, 2016 Share March 1, 2016 Great car, love the front end styling (especially the headlights) as well as the arch behind the doors. But still, it's more of an evolution than a revolution. In any case, with the VMax of cars being pushed to the extremes, I think, the next bit would be acceleration / handling, of which, the Chiron doesn't seem to fall far (handling that is, being nearly 2 tons)... Beautiful, but I'm still more in love with the P1, Aventador, and the Zonda over this.

7hm Turbocharged March 1, 2016 Share March 1, 2016 Front end looks like the old car, but the headlamps... have crazy levels of satki, cool looking. rear end reminds me of the McLaren P1. Dashboard guages remind me of Lexus LFA or Aventador. ....2.5m is way out of what I can even think of but it's not as expensive as I thought it would be 261mph is 420km/h, I thought a Veyron successor would go higher. What's the unlimited max?

What's the unlimited max? Imagine to put this car on the road here, for a short 10 years of life span, the price tag would easily be >S$8m!!! As to the top speed, do bare in mind this is just the standard version, sport / custom tuned model to follow. I would not be surprised it can hit 450Km/h or more.

Anything more than 300km/h is not possible. Tyre can't take that heat.

I know you are refering to the speed rating on the common tyre, Y or Z rating to be specific. But the rating is given based on continuous driving at the rated speed, which is unlikely the case for speed testing of super car. The previous record (for production car) is held by a Bugatti Veyron Super Sport (@415Km/h, and thus I guess the sport (tuned) version for the new Chiron shall be able to hit 430Km/h and above.

I am not talking about the tyre rating. I am talking about tyre fall apart because of heat generated from high speed. It can reach top speed but it cannot be driven over a long period of time. The Veyron could do 400km/h for about 10-15 mins before the tires get shredded. Top Gear tested it at VW's track at more than 400 I think... 405 or something.
