Budget speaker upgrade

Thanks. Am driving a Honda Stream, and will usually let my kids watch animation movies on the rear overhead screen, so I would most probably put a pair of coaxials there since the cost isn't very high and labour fee would already be needed anyway (or is that charged separately?).

What do I look out for in determining the required power? I see a lot of specifications/numbers but have no idea what I ought to filter.

Between a subwoofer and an amplifier, which one will give a more obvious difference?

can look at jbl speakers. they can run at lower power too.

subwoofer makes more of a difference unless your amp is with a DSP function

So I just have to look at the RMS value and find something sub-100W?

Guess I won't need either the amp or subwoofer then, thanks!

In general, yes.

More importantly. It depends on your expectations and budget on the type of speakers, and whether amp, dsp and sub is required.

Amp is important... As most HU is puny in power. A decent package amp plus speakers can be found in the hertz.... Get a hcp 4 plus speakers. It gives decent sound.

Thanks for all the info! Will consider trying out a set of components in front at least. I read that it's possible to even leave the rear on stock and there won't be much of a difference even if I install a pair of coaxials there?

not as significant unless you do proper setup and tuning etc.

btw if you are looking for active sub, I have a 10 inch one used for just 2 months to let go haha.

yoyo!

Its been sometime since i ventured down to MCF!

Anyway, basically, rear fill is good if you have to entertain rear passengers ( mostly to keep kids entertained)

Hardcore ICE people do nothave the rear fill.

Overall, for a setup, it will depend on your overall budget and expectations :)

Cheers!

Yeah, got kids to entertain during long road trips, so need to have rear fill.

I've set my eyes on a set of Pioneer A1606C components for the front and TS-G1620F for the rear that seems to fit my budget.

Think I will skip the amp and subwoofer.

My expectatations aren't high - as long as it gives a better experience than the stocks, I'll be satisfied! Not like the speakers will help to remove the static from the radio anyway hahaha!

Cash and carry at $400. Do you know installation cost and also SP?

Replace speakers is about $30 - $80.

Actually its a very simple job. Unscrew 4 screws to remove the old speakers

and fix the new speakers.

SP should be about $100 - $300 depending on 2 or 4 doors, 1 or 2 layers.

I used Vifa CS 2399. Its a power hungry speaker but I used it with an amplifier.

1682224-vifa-car-speaker-system-cs-2399-

All the request here is for using a speaker without amplifier so the

speaker needs to be very efficient and Hertz is very efficient with

sensitivity at 92. For reference the Vifa is only 87.

Before buying you can ask the dealer to demo the speakers to see

if you like the sound. You just have to take note when hearing the

speaker ask the dealer to run without an amp. Also the sound of the

speaker will take sound of the head unit. So if the dealer uses a really

good head unit and your head unit is not so good, the sound in your car

will not sound as good as in the shop.

Neutral Newbie

unless your car comes with premium sound system, 95% of our cars are paper cone speakers. My PI car lagi best, came empty !!  [laugh]

Any upgrade from paper will show significant improvement. A < $100 Pioneer set will be good enough. Many entry level speakers around lah, Set yourself a $200+ budget and go look at MB Quart, JBL, Pioneer, Alpine, Rockford Fosgate. I noticed a certain advertiser at Marketplace (MM) has a variety of speakers. Go there and tell the guy your listening style, ask to recommend for your budget.

Personally, I use CDT.

I am totally agree with you mate. And I am going for the pioneer. It's the top notch brand in the market regarding modern technologies
