I was in the same situation as you. This is actually to your benefit. I was driving a car bought in end 2009 which I bought for $55,000. I sold my car for $49,000 last November and have been on BMW while waiting for the COE to plunge (which thankfully, the market did not disappoint). Remember if you go for trade in, High COE (higher trade in value), low COE (lower trade in value). That was what all dealers told me when I wanted to change a car back in Sept-Oct 2015. In the end, I sold the car. When market crash, just re-enter.  I would do the same now, if given the choice. So in your position, I would, sell the car, wait for another 6 months for COE to plunge, then re-enter the market.

If you die die need a car, then just change now. Anyway low priced COE cars have higher depreciation in the last 3-4 years of its shelf life. Dont wait till then

Yeah, something I don't understand, why a low price COE car seems to have higher depreciation? Can someone enlighten me please?

Thanks

Thank

to me all these are bulls**t tactic that the used car dealer use. they will tell u this car good because high COE which i always challenge them

1. so what high coe. if i drive till scrap. how has high coe benefit me but rather is the purchase price that i am concern.

2. even if i resell again, to certain degree depend on the coe then when i sell. if the coe then when i sell is super low. then i can only scrap my car which maybe slightly better off than car will lower coe. you take back more for unused coe. you still lose money just more or less.  and also that is only assuming both cars (different coe level) have similar prices at the point of purchase.

low price COE car seems to have higher depreciation

because it is benchmark according to the current market price level. so the first buy may buy new at 8k/yr depreciating but when come to u ... u will buy at 12k.yr deprecaiting because it is benchmark to current car price level which maybe a new one will depreciat at 13or 14k/yr

so the 1st owner make money.

so simple...

low coe car sell at current market price

high coe car sell at high coe price

works best for the pockets of the sellers

It all voice down to supply and demand. The reason why dealers dare to price it high is bcos there are still buyers out there.
