Try this text, which applies to single passenger ride only. I only do 1 pax hitch and I am very picky on who shares my ride. I also don't take anyone without a picture of themselves on the App. Lol...

 

A friend shared this with me after I told him why I stopped giving hitch ride. Now I have very little waiting time and no rude passenger insisting on taking the back seat.

 

I cut and paste the below and send after acceptance of a hitch ride each time.

 

I am on the way to your location. Please be punctual. I am not a commercial driver and you won't be sharing the ride with anyone, appreciate if you could take the front seat. Please cancel if you are not agreeable to the above. Otherwise i will see you shortly. Thank you.

Notice that 1 lady in my area like her hitch always slow for driver to accept bcos she s always late despite I sms her ETA n when I m near. She also sits behind n dont talk! Haha.

Grab website mentioned that Grabhitch is to match journeys between drivers and commuters heading the same way. But i have encountered hitch driver seems like treat hitch like Grab share, as i was going to novena area and driver message me that he will be picking another person and would dropped him first at lor chuan area then would drop me.

Yes. A lot of grab commercial drivers have entered the hitch market and spoiling the rules for all.

Actually I used to send a very very long message last time. Lots of rules and reminder. But I gave up after I realised most people don't read. Haha!

I do it for the fun of it. Yes, it covers your petrol but not the running cost of the car. Doing it for the money will make you very miserable. Just remember that you bought your car because you need it, not to do hitch. Hitch is just a bonus.

Don't drive hitch if main intention is to earn extra income or ease financial burden. 

 

When I just started doing hitch, I was very on the ball, always try to get 2 hitch daily. Can hit $400-$600 per month. But after some time, find it not worth the stress and extra time spent.

 

Now I just try to look for match when I am about to start my journey, if there is a good match, take it. If don't have, it is a bonus that I will reach my destination faster.

Guess hitch can earn extra income if you get 2 hitch daily and get at least 2 pax per hitch or even 4 pax. Lol. Thats why sometimes when i take hitch, saw that some driver max up the car with 3 to even 4 pax per trip.

Only did 1 time doing 2 pickups on a single trip. Was able to chat with the 1st rider before the 2nd pickup. The whole car went super silent after the second person get in. Then was able to chat with the 2nd rider after the 1st rider drop off. Though there are no wasted waiting time and minimum detour and the $$ was good. But don't like that. So I never stack after that.

 

I do heard of some bad experience from some of my riders on stack rides that sometime they might need to wait up to 20-30 mins between pickups and some very far detour.

Lol. I won't even allow my kids to take the back seat if the front seat is available and I also won't do that to someone who is giving me a ride (even if I am obliged to share some petrol cost).

 

To me, it is mutual respect as the hitch arrangement is supposed to be mutually beneficial and not purely commercial.

 

While the ride could be a short one, it is the relationship between driver and passenger that matters to some. If the driver is viewed and treated like a commercial driver because $5-10 is changing hands, then perhaps it is no longer an equal relationship. Just because you help to defray some petrol cost does not automatically make you a customer.

 

Actually to do hitch, you got to like meeting people. Some do it primarily for the money, so they rather the passenger(s) sit behind and play with their phones and not talk. I can understand that but we all do it for different reasons, of course money is a factor but it is not the main one for many here with supposedly big ego.

Actually nothing wrong with doing hitch. I'm a senior manager, but all my staff know I do hitch. In fact I share with them my hitch experience also. And we have a good laugh over it.

 

But I do admit that with a nicer car, my ego is more inflated and I prefer riders to sit in front and chat.

As a matter of principle, I don't pick up those with no profile pic.
