i actually drove past Valley point the afternoon before the accident happened. i remember because i was at a traffic light and i turned my head intentionally just to look at the building's name, stared inside to see the shops and thought it looked like a boring shopping center.... hours later go home see this thread created....

....... please dont look at me next time ......... NEVER pls

from the video, I am guessing..... the car flew over the bushes and mirror, landed and hit the railing before going into the canal

ok maybe i was referring to the manual days when depressing clutch.

For our car, ie, yours and mine, the pedals quite nicely spaced apart and not much of an issue.

Turbocharged

My guess, wife come out and up ramp slowiy and carefull, car reach ramp slow and could not roll over hump, step on gas maybe abit too much and no power, than step again harder!!!For those who have driven the E200 or esp the more powerfull E250,the surge from the sudden explosive power from the supercharge/turbo engine is quite powerfull.Maybe that sudden rush of power send the car propelling out of the carpark straight onto the river leaving her no time to react.RIP,my condolence to Mr Poon.

if you are at the hump already and you gas it, the car wont go flying. you need some distance of acceleration in order to use the hump as a springboard.

even then, e250 is not exactly a light car, or a powerful car to begin with. there is literally no room to accelerate and jump so high over the bushes without gathering enough speed. (and yes i know this carpark very well, when i am lazy, i will drive into this building, drop off my wife at ntuc, wait at the back till she is done, and then pick her up again).

regardless, it is quite fortunate there are not many people exercising at that time. i normally run around the canal on the opposite side (that leads towards alexandra area). if this happened in the afternoon, might have been more fatalities.

either way, RIP.

Some people when they are in panic mode, their reaction is to floor the gas pedal, and will carry on stepping on it when hitting an obstacle.

that may have happened but the news say got no grass or bush ripped up in the Mercedes case. is that even possible?

After I installed the sport pedals on my previous ride I didn't dare to floor the pedal, was apprehensive about the sharp screws that came with...would get stuck by the floor board.

Why people keep saying can drive lorry? Class 3 can drive 10 feet lorry already. Unless talking about class 4 or 5.

While the E250 may not be as fast as a GTR, it's still about 7 seconds century sprint. Faster than most cars on the road.

Now that you all mention, I cannot remember if I heel to floor or lift up foot?

Have to check this weekend.

I think heel to floor is safer, do like a V and switch.

Your best bet is to engage N and step on brake. Unless brake malfunction then engine brake, lower gear and slow down to a stop. If both brake and throttle are malfunctioning then maybe engine cut but car will be free rolling. Crash into sand or grass ?

Brush against bushes, shrubs or kerb to slow down?

As I read the responses here, I start to think that it is probably safer to drive a manual car. It takes the coordination of 2 legs and 1 hand to shift the gear in order to launch the car forward. Very safe.

And u probably realize also that we hardly hear lorry drivers step wrong pedal and launch the vehicle accidentally.

true, but not many cars sold here come with manual variants these days already ... [:)]
