Mercedes crashes into Sg river

Wa this is really scary. The car missed the tree, blindspot mirror and the lamp post and went straight into canal. If you watched the video from CNA, you would have seen how narrow the path is. There is also a kerb before the bushes to clear.

The police also ruled out foul play.

So what is this? It's really creepy.

Maybe the wife was trying to steer the car away from those obstacles without knowing at that moment that there is a canal right up ahead

I noted that there was a hump on the exit of the building.  If the speed was so fast, it was a ramp for takeoff

Real sad news and just goes to show that we can go anytime.

Peace

No point cutting off engine. Engage Neutral gear, then it will be all on the brake. Split second window only, no time to think.

If got time engage N gear, then I think it will be better all d way brake n brake. But if a person really lost control, he/she would at tat critical moment busy swerving d steering wheel to avoid knocking on things along d way.

My opinion, d ramp of d entrance car park possibly too high. So, d car driver not able to have a smooth ascend n possibly stop at d ramp. And becos of d high ramp, possibly stepped on d accelerator too hard to ascend. By doing so, lost control. d rest r history. May d mother n daughter R.I.P

Maybe slippers got trapped at the pedal or carpet? Can't rule out this possibility

from the video, I am guessing..... the car flew over the bushes and mirror, landed and hit the railing before going into the canal

watch the CNA news last night and the reporter was pointing at the bushes saying....the car did not ran thru this bushes as you can see...i guess the speed was fast n it went over it.

Supercharged

Guys switch between brake pedal and accelerator by pivoting the right foot on the heel (except when e-braking). Women have smaller and narrower feet and footwear and tend to or even need to lift the right foot to go from one pedal to the other. This increases the chance of stepping on the wrong pedal. I asked my wife how she switches pedals and she said she lifts up her right foot.

Lifting up the right foot is the right way to do it though. That is what is taught in driving school. Ironically, the instructors told me, this reduces the chances of stepping on the wrong pedal as compared to just pivoting the foot left and right for the brake or accelerator.

Isnt this the right way to drive like what was taught in driving school? Use the ball of your feet to touch the pedals.

This is going to be unsolved mystery..

I know at the back of our minds we still think its a woman driver.

can drive lorry but lorry is not a sports car. (ok car is faster acceleration)

however many years of driving and no matter how good at driving, we still can make mistakes, man or woman.

although it takes just one mistake, we dun really know how grave that mistake can be until it has happened.

really mystery..

My guess, wife come out and up ramp slowiy and carefull, car reach ramp slow and could not roll over hump, step on gas maybe abit too much and no power, than step again harder!!!For those who have driven the E200 or esp the more powerfull E250,the surge from the sudden explosive power from the supercharge/turbo engine is quite powerfull.Maybe that sudden rush of power send the car propelling out of the carpark straight onto the river leaving her no time to react.RIP,my condolence to Mr Poon.

I believe many would mistaken the gas as the brake pedal in the state of panic.

That's why I asked if would cutting the engine off, akin to pressing a panic button help?

Anyone with start/stop button feature care to try?

Please do so in a controlled safe environment.

hmmm can also try throw the carkey away .... no car key , engine will stop ?
