U-Turn & Left Turn - giving way

If I am turning left (from a small road) into main road, while car on opposite road is making u-turn onto the same main road, who should give way ?  Does it matter if U-turn point is before, at or after the Left turn point ?

 

An example is Holland Road (from old Holland Road) leading into Ulu Pandan/Holland Road.

Cant remember this being mentioned during driving lessons ... or maybe I forgot ...

U-turning vehicle have the right of way.

 

They are on the main road.

unless the u turn is in the middle of the road such as those located at upper thomson road near tagore lane.

I use the junction mentioned few times a day, everyday.

 

1. When I am on Old Holland Road, filtering to Holland Road, I look out for U-turn vehicles and give way. 

 

2. When I am the one making the U-turn, I try and make eye contact with the driver of car coming out from Old Holland Road. He sees me, I accelerate. He does not see me, I horn to get attention. If after horn, still don't get attention, I am prepared to jam brake or swerve to the centre lane. 

 

Further down the road at junction of Coronation Road and Holland Road, there is another similar junction that is even more accident prone as the turning is in line with the junction. Tthe majority of cases cars turn right from Hollad Road into Coronation Road. So when a car does make a u-turn, the car exiting from Coronation Road usually is caught by surprise and contact is made

Use the Give Way to Your Right rule in this.

 

 

 

If you want the official explanations and logic, they are on the main road while you are in the minor road joining the main road, so they have the right of way. Same thing applies to someone who turned right on to the road you are joining into
