pretty sad to be a motor journalist in SG, have chance to test drive all the tokgong cars. then use wish as your everyday ride

at least overseas, u can have a everyday family car and a more fun car to drive.

Some don't even have car even.  [:(]

most 2nd hand dealers got inhouse financing that cirumvert the MAS rules....

80% loan also can

Yes, but the price of used car is lower than new cars, so the amount needed is much lesser.

yeah.

but mostly for older cars.

usually those 9 yrs and above car they only offer paper value anyway. so over trade is worth.

for newer cars then bo hua.

ADs can usually make from several sources-loans, car mark up, insurance (for some), servicing, accessories and Coe ( was wondering to put this down as it may start a fire!)

If they can make from your trade in, why not? Quoting at paper value is definitely no go unless your car is in a bad shape.

You should check what is the value of the car with 1 year left ....most makes are asking 0.8-1k a month. I think deals are done around 500-800 a month,

Some thoughts on his opinion -

1. When talking about the Q7 he is just being whimisical - it's not a serious consideration

2. Given his job, I know would be surprised if his car has even reached 100,000km

3. His is a PI model

4. He will get strong support from reputable companies for repairs

5. Less than $8,000 (factoring higher road tax etc) is a big difference to "more than $10,000"

6. I would still go for comprehensive insurance.

If I were in his shoes, I would be renewing the COE -

Hi all. Yesterday went to a car showroom , my car still left 18 mths . The sales person told me that if I continue to drive for another 6 mths.  I would only able to trade in my car at paper value. May I know is it true or is he trying bluff me to buy a car from him.

If 18 month left - I'd be waiting waiting waiting - most people expect COE to drop, which is going to save you far more than any "extra" money you get by trading now

Doesn't know that ST's journalist paid so well.

The writer said the price tag of $300,000 is just "merely".

He put it in scare quotes - meaning he is being sarcastic - it's not merely to him, he's actually saying the price is exorbitant

I don't read what he writes ... [:p]

Yup, don't like him either. He called me once for an interview when I was in my previous industry. Not too impressed with him.

Anyway, this guy can just live with a budget (in SG context) type of car and still enjoy more motoring than most of us combined. He gets access to so many exotic and expensive cars in his job. Many for multiple days. Most of the bosses in the car industry give him face cos of his job position.

Over trade is ballooning the loan right? It's not discount...

Pardon me..Can't see how this can be worth..

Not me [smallcry] ... Darren Lim and Evelyn Tan bought a boat for $300,000 instead of house...

imo.. very inconsiderate parents.. how the kids are going to grow up in such an environment.

for one, can they even do proper homework and study with the boat rocking...

and the younger ones.. going to be strapped somewhere 24x7, or never left out of their sight? or they all can swim in the sea already  [hur]

i do know an angmoh colleague renting and stay in a boat vs a condo.. he said it's cheaper wor..

maybe this couple can't afford their landed or condo?

anyway,.. think we've gone OT  [smash]
