To save money: do like what I did, get a 4G SIM router (less than $100), add in Simba data-only plan $5 for 300GB monthly. I've been on this router/SIM for 2 months now, absolutely no problem. I don't miss the fibre broadband, after giving up Starhub 500Mbps a few months earlier. No contract to worry about, when it ends. No worry about losing equipment and being charged extra. Just $5 per month. If data not enough, just get another 4G router, another $5 SIM card. Your initial outlay is the price of router; then it's $5 or $10 monthly going forward. So need to get a router that can insert the Simba SIM card? 300GB enough for whole family to use, even see online drama? Why you did not consider the Simba fibre broadband plan? $29.99. But if they watch individually alone every time, which means multiple streams, then maybe not. Depends on each individual usage. Why you did not consider the Simba fibre broadband plan? $29.99. -> Using SIM router is for saving cost if your usage is low: web surfing + some video watching. Also you have freedom to change it any time. Fibre is fixed cost, but you're tied to a 2yr contract generally. You cannot change unless you don't mind paying penalty. For me, right now I have 2 routers with 2 $5 SIM. That's $10 monthly, and more than enough for my usage. I have 3 tenants but only one watch tv at night. Day time, I'm the only one using Internet and sometimes watch tv.
Volvobrick Supersonic Monday at 09:02 AM Share Monday at 09:02 AM I just realised stinktel contract over 2 months ago. Checked promo - re-contracting is 10 dollars more per month than new signup for the same package. Really WTF! Treat new comers better than your loyal old customers! Called them and got the price reduced to be same as new sign up. If StinkyTel didn't match I would cancel and move out entirely liao. Probably this will be the last 2 years with them.

Just on cost, 2 routers, $100 x 2 = $200 Data plan, $5 x 2 x 24 month (typical broadband plan duration) = $240 Over 2 years, you would spend $440 or $18.33 a month. If you do not upgrade router then the cost will be lower. From my reading, NLT charges ISP $13.50 a month for usage/service fees, which means, we are not going to be able to get broadband plan that is lower than that amount. For plan that costs $29.90 a month and giving away a ONT plus no setup fees, wow, the margin is very thin for ISP.

Singtel home broadband price always more ex than the others even as new signup. There are not many choices for home broadband in the market. If you don’t sign with Singtel, you can only go to others which might also same treatment.

ONR can connect up to 3 ports where one useless one for Mio TV which i don have/use.. So now my son never complain on lag as now he connect wired to the ONR.. the new router is sitting in the original box.. as i using my Tp-Link routers..

I use Simba for their mobile, $5 senior plan, tbh, as long as you have the right expectations, this cheap plan is fantastic. A recent Business Times report quoted some industry analyst saying Simba strategy is to provide "good enough" service for their mobile, that is how they grew to over a million subscribers recently. The full service telco they "steal" the most customers from is Starhub. "Good enough" means Simba will never win any Speedtest or ping results but for regular use it is definitely workable. Of course, YMMV depending on where you frequent, etc. ↡ Advertisement
