Ysc3 Twincharged February 18 Author Share February 18 @13177 butt feel, no difference from my previous provider ... since i only had to replace the ONT, the rest of the setup is the same ... my smart switches also working. last i read is SB might not be compatible with some wifi devices but there are no issues with mine. speed is regulated by my old router so no increase also. i guess if super speed is not a requirement, then SB is good enough. ↡ Advertisement
Dafansu Turbocharged February 18 Share February 18 quick check for changing of new router and ONT, if i use back the same wifi network name and password will all my devices reconnect automatically? just swop another ONT and router recently and changedmy network name so need to reconnect a lot of things. Is it better to keep the same network name or change new?

therock Supersonic February 21 Share February 21 Hi bros Asking for some advice : Currently I'm on a long expired Starhub 1gb home bundle, which has a few channels, free home line, plus an ancient cable box. I pay about $72 a month but the TV channels are largely unused. I am using Google Mesh Wifi on ethernet backhaul using a TP Link router. Will try to retain this because I'm only on cat 6 cabling throughout my home. My needs are - I need that VOIP line - 1Gb is ok, because wifi slows down to 500, but I won't mind a faster LAN if it's possible - I don't definitely need TV channels, but bloomberg or CNBC and BBC will be nice - I do use the 4k Premium Netflix and Amazon Video I was looking at Starhub as the natural choice, they have a 3Gbps Internet only for $39.91 then I pay $2.14 for the home line plus about $34 for the Netflix, which is close to the original price I am paying. If I wish to add TV channels such as the Entertainment Plus package, it will be about $35 more? There is a 5gbp homehub package for $66.72 and I will need to top up for the Premium account and also add a second account for my brother in law, plus add a home line. https://www.starhub.com/personal/tvplus/passes.html Just soliciting views on what is the best deal for my needs please? Thanks

AndrewLee72 6th Gear February 21 Share February 21 (edited) @therock Bro - stick to SH - renew it at $39 p/m cos u need VOIP line. Im also on SH $39 but 1GB plan cos renewed it 1 year plus ago. Means you pay $39 + $2.12 p/m. For the TV portion, remove Netflick subscription, drive in to JB (KSL Mall) get a "special box" there (RM470) - can stream EE-pee-L and N-flix and all sorts of movie channels. Enjoy !!! Thanks for the feedback bro I will probably stick to SH just because it has the least downtime but I’ll probably subscribe la 😆 just checking the links incremental cost of keeping those channels in case wife wants them 😅

therock Supersonic February 25 Share February 25 Ok I just got a deal: $29.5 for 5Gbs with ONR router/modem from Starhub plus installation costs, add $21 fee for home line and $2.14 per month, contract 24 months Bonus is free Entertainment plus for 1 yr OR $29.5 for 5Gbs with ONT modem, use my own Google Mesh plus installation free, add $21 fee for home line and $2.14 per month, contract 24 months No free Entertainment plus The latter is still cheaper than the 39 per month 5 Gbps even though with my google mesh I can't reach this speed. My question is, can the ONR be compatible with my Google Mesh because I've heard of compatibility issues with ONR instead of ONT? And if I opt for the ONT with my own Google Router and nodes, can I get LAN speeds of greater than 1 Gps, which is a bonus not a must. I'll add Netflix Premium for either package since they don't include it. Which is a $25.98+6.98 cost for two households. Thanks

Thanks I know Singtel ONR remove some admin permission for advanced setting of the ONR like port mode, dns and dhcp setting. Not sure about Starhub. From the ONT if it support higher than 1gbps, your router need to have a port that also support higher than 1gbps. So far most 10gbps ONT cannot support 1gbps router. You will need at least 2.5gbps router wan port.

I don't know if I trust him on the ONR and compatibility with Google Mesh so I'm willing to sacrifice the free Entertainment plus.. I calculated that even if I'm limited to the existing 1Gps speed with my google mesh I'm ok cos it's plenty, but my cost go down by almost half - my current bill is $70 - I take the 5Gps internet only for $29.5, add home phone for $2.14 plus install fee of $21, that's still about $35 or so. I lose my news channels, but my wife says its ok.. The minus is we have to use a new phone line (no biggie) and it's under her name (also no biggie) Edited February 25 by therock ↡ Advertisement
