The key thing to note is that all price plans advertise the highest speed, which is for local download. All 3 metrics are equally important, and normally international speed is around 15Mbps to 25Mbps depending on which package you take. Upload speed is about half of the local download speed.

 

Normally, 50Mbps would be sufficient, as the international speed remains at 15Mbps for both 50Mbps and 100Mbps plan (Singtel). But I took up the 100Mbps plan anyway, as they would provide the new box instead of using the old white MIO box. And that turned out to be a good move, as the wireless N gives much better performance than the wireless G in the old box, and first wired port is gigabit, compared to 4x 100Mbps port on the old box.

 

And the speed so far has been excellent.

Yes you are right, most provider although they advertise as 100, 10 or 200 Mbps. But it's only for local, the international bandwidth is capped at 15-2Mbps. So far, MyRepublic is offering full 100Mbps, Singtel follow suit so as to catch up with the competition. But bear in mind of the contention ratio for Singtel, in another words the number of subscribers they allow on one fibre line. They usually allow over-subscription which leads to the signifcant slow down during peak hours.

my place have fiber but previous owner didn't take the free installation :blink:

 

in order to install, i have to pay $300 or something like that, on top of the ONT inside home

I've got an alternative for you, if you do not wish to pay for the one time Opennet installation out from your own pocket. Right now MyRepublic have the 5 months free subscription, you can opt to trade in this for the Opennet installation.

Hi, I am actually very keen to know the international speedtest of MyRepublic, still checking around to subcribe fibre to replace my cable broadband. I am currently using 30Mbps cable M1 package, and I saw alot of M1 100Mbps fibre international speedtest not much better than mine.

 

Can Jachan or someone with MyRepublic run an international speedtest and post the results? For example, new york server?

 

Honestly, I never expect full international speed, but at least better than mine, or else there is no different for me to subscribe fibre. Thanks!

Singtel also give me free modem for the fibre setup. Plus 2 months free subscription. Waiver of installation charges. Convert telephone line to digital line. tihs package is the etreme sports pack 200mbs 24 months contract.

 

I am using the Fibre optic from singtel right now but still using the analog phone line (for home phone). Do you know how i can convert it into the free digtal phone line which is free? Do i need to buy another phone and can i use back the same number?

I'm not on SingTel but definitely you can use back the same phone and need not buy a new one. I think you're able to retain the number 'cos my current service provider got asked me want to use back my old SingTel home number......

Thanks! But i read somewhere that i need a IP phone in order tap into the free home line thingy (ok i am not tech savvy lol).

 

Anyway, i shall call singtel to check tmr.

Don't think so leh......I'm now on M1 Fibre and I just plugged my home phone into the unit and it works just as it was in the past....

Plug into the modem? My current phone is plug into the home line plug which they are still charging me.

did you opt for analog line in the beginning? if you want to switch to digital, I think still need to inform Singtel to activate the voice on the modem.

 

you need a power point for the IP phone.

no need. Both analog phone or dect phone can be used.
