Ct3833 Supersonic July 16, 2017 Share July 16, 2017 (edited) Change gearbox there last only 1 yr. whats the point if keep changing gearbox thereHi, i spent $2.4k to repair my OLDyssey gearbox and drove for a year before i scrapped it. Let me explain why it was worth the money.I drove my Oldyssey for 9 years and had been keeping it well maintained. In fact for 7 years my ody had been maintained only by KM. Only during the last 3 years i sent to KM/TPM for every alternate service schedule. For every service, i would tell mechanics to perform PM check, any smallest signs of oil leak or belt fray, i would have it fixed or replaced. Fortunately the ody was a trusty workhorse that hardly ever give me problems. Net is i knew the condition of my car well that i knew it would last for 1 more year without major repair after a gearbox service. Imagine if i had to sell my car then, i would have been offered closed to scrap price for a 9 year old car. That would mean i have to write off the 10th year depreciation. And assuming i buy another 9 year old ody as a replacemrnt, i would have to cough out 13k depr minimally, yet without knowing if the car would last for a year without repair. In fact more likely some repair would be required. So even till now after 2.5 years, i am still convinced that it was worth spending 2.4k to repair gearbox to drive for 1 year. Some who has the theory of switching to new car when a 9 year old car breaks down may not agree with me, or those who think yolo would rather scrap it and buy a new car. Not wrong but i just work it out based on pure mathematic formula, no feeling about driving old car or not worried about visiting workshop in case of a car breakdown. What did get after scrapping the ody? I too had the GB problem with the ody, she serve me well till the last day of her service with only with leaking steering rack and a GB that felt lime a turbo kicked in at gear 3. ↡ Advertisement
