Actually if our Starex is like the Malaysia one and they sell at the same price as now, then I think the price still ok. IIRC the Starex they sell in Sg no electric doors also right?

Yah, if got 4 rows, then it's a different proposition altogether. But it's just a 8-seater and nothing fanciful (not those luxurious captain's seats with footrest, etc., and Komoco prices it so high. In fact the SE said it doesn't sell much because customers are brand conscious and would choose Toyota (Alphard) and Nissan (Elgrand) as they still think Hyundai is inferior.

I almost wanted to say please lor, did they cover up the brands and compare the cars, when prices are not far apart...

I can't remember whether got electric doors here, but even the 3 i sat/rented overseas also no electric doors...

First an foremost, your dad need the car to be registered with "S" plate so that he can drive in to Malaysia? The reason I am asking is that basically there are 2 category of vehicle you can consider:

1) Passenger vehicle, i.e. MPV

2) Commercial vehicle. i.e. panel van

There is a huge different in selling price between the 2, mainly due to taxes, and if your dad don't really need a "S" plate, than I would say give a serious consideration to the 2nd cat.

OK, assuming he would still need a MPV, I echo what the others have suggested:

- VW Caddy Maxi (LWB version) 1.4TSI

- Mazda Biante 2.0

Maybe can also checkout the following (see if the AD can bring in 7 seater version for your dad):

- Mercedes-Benz Citan Mixto / Extra Long

- Renault Kangoo

- Peugeot Partner

- Fiat Doblo

And if option open up to commercial vehicle:

- Nissan NV200

- Toyota Litace

- Maxus V80

Happy shopping and do give us an update after you have checked out the recommended models.

Called up merc to ask about the citan mixto. They currently have the 5 seat version. They are lookingto bring in the 7 seater version sometime end of the year. Might be going there to take a look at the citan just to see how it is. pricewise might exceed my dad's requirement but he is tempted because of the badge. haha.. will check out the rest later on. Thanx for the info. Really helps. And yeah he does go to malaysia a lot so the need to have it in S plate for the ease of it.
