Thanks for the advice.

Visited 3 showrooms over last weekend. Toyota, VW, Honda.

Disappointed that Honda Jade was not in showroom at Alexandra. Mobilia nice and small but feel the metal plate used on the body a bit thin. The thing I like about it is the folding of middle row for people to acess to 3rd row is really nice.

VW new touran is great too. More ex though. like the hight of the seats. Easy for my old folks to in and out of car. A sliding door would be even better.

Toyota wish is like what everybody said. Really basic and out dated look. Price is cheaper than touran but honestly, I would save a bit more to get touran.

Any others to recommend? Looking for mid to compact MPV. Looking for direct dealers and not parallel importers. Price range $150k and below

There are some other bros who have recommended Stepwgn... I think it is an underrated choice in this market just because it isn't brought in by an AD. Note that JDMs are usually very well-spec-ed, because the Japs keep a lot of good stuff to themselves.

The Mobilio is hoenstly, not meant for a sophisticated market like Singapore. It is an extremely rudimentary structure with a new body, and appeals to developing countries. I think it probably can't even compare to the Stream.

Stepwagen not being popular here not because it is not brought in by AD. there are many success stories like Vezel, Estima, Harrier, Absolute are all brought in by PI but are selling very sell. one key reason Stepwagen is not popular here could be due to its look.

Look is one issue. In order to give more space, the vehicle is tall n this makes it van-like. Practical but not pleasing to the eye. That's what I felt for the first model (in 06), and this model is no different.

As I aged and kids grow up and the need for space increases, I'm open to choosing practicality over visual appeals, but stepwgn will face challenges:

- taller than some old carparks so bit inconvenient

- spare parts not easy to find as vehicle hasn't reached critical mass stage. I know someone who owned the first gen model until it expired 3 mth ago. Apparently when he wanted to replace wiper, workshop said it's special and asked him to buy 20 sets before it'll place an order to Japan... the wiper dunno why so special... he flipped... Lucky later the workshop took think ody wiper and modified to fit onto the stepwgn.

- for those looking for spacious mpvs but find the alphard, vellfires, elgrands, etc too expensive, among the van-like options, there is one by AD - Mazda Biante. So this is another challenge.

- I was still open to it, as wide didn't like the look of the triplets but was ok with this. Then heard someone pointed out it had no bumper at the back, so any minor knock from rear might require replacing the whole tailgate... that's where I hesitated as our wish was knocked at the back 3 times in 10 yr...

Stepwgn rear door bi-fold type. quite unique. If kenna rear ended, easy to repair? Or must wait for spare part from Japan?

how come no one is looking at Chevrolet Orlando ? sturdy drive

Quite nice to drive. Space is ok. Good headroom. But not the best fuel economic 7seater.

How come no one is looking at Toyota avanza? Looks cheap [laugh]

Last yr when I went to the showroom, the SE recommended wish instead of avanza cos wish cos interms of quality and specs wish better. I think avanza and mobilio was designed for Indonesia's market? Edited by yokechye

Agreed on the outlook of Sienta but must say on the plus side, it's spacious for such a small car n the way they keep the seats is ingenious

For me, the criteria for choosing a MPV

1) space within the car - have to ferry 7 person during weekend trip

2) outside size - not too big, difficult to park

3) reliable brand - sorry to some brand that I won't mention but to spend so much, I want a peace of mind, also, some of the less available model make reselling, getting space part difficult.

These are just my personal criteria. Each to his own.
