lukeusesforce 1st Gear January 15, 2017 Share January 15, 2017 (edited) Thought I'll also contribute my 2c for anyone who might be interested.Just collected last week. Got it in 2 bids. 1st bid missed by $1. Did not want anything thrown in. Paint protection ownself do. Car camera have liao. So the money went towards armrest custom leather colour. I am a high mileage driver (workplace Dover, stay in Tampines so can clock 2k+ per mth.) Based on claimed FC and driving bias towards expressway + tend to be a faster driver, did my calculation for Prius and Ioniq hybrid but diesel still offers more savings.Personal feel is that this car is a BnB type car with a bit of creature comfort thrown in. It is not spectacular, but for those who can achieve the mileage it should serve well. Reliability wise, probably cannot expect it to be Altis or Civic (I had good experience with previous Renault btw) but for me, the running cost savings should go towards any issues. Plus I am already getting more stuff for the money such as sunroof, xenon headlights, full LED lighting + DRL, reverse cam with front and rear parking sensors, Bluetooth multimedia + sat nav, keyless entry and even frills like headlamp washer. The only thing I think really need to go in with eyes open is the refinement. For the anal types, the engine can be heard from the front seat when idling + radio off + aircon low, and a bit of vibration is noticeable, though not irritating or annoying. If you die die also must have Toyota style idling or paiseh to start engine in front of your friends, pls look at newer generation models such as Kadjar and the new 2017 Megane which I also test drove. (Reminder: You get what you pay for.)In case you are wondering, the engine cannot be heard when cruising at 90km/h. It does make an interesting sound nearer to idle RPM, like a can of spray paint being shaken somewhere far away. Pros:- Excellent ride quality and good handling- Very good interior space and legroom esp. huge boot - Tons of features for the $- Good pickup esp. in-gear without need to rev - 20-25km/l in mixed driving quite easy to reach - Proven diesel engine, more than 10 mil units built, well known for reliabilityCons:- Interior design a bit dated depending on taste, recommend asking for warm or light colour leather and insist on door trim leather as it lifts the car's look greatly- Refinement will not be everyone's cup of tea, those who require no vibration should look at the new Megane, or go for Ioniq, Prius etc. - Usual caution regarding dual-clutch transmission, e.g. do not hold car with accelerator pedal on slope, do not creep forward for prolonged period, etc. Edited January 15, 2017 by lukeusesforce

lukeusesforce 1st Gear March 10, 2017 Share March 10, 2017 Might I add that the new VES structure will result in a $20k surcharge, not just for this car or Megane but all diesel cars... If anyone needs a diesel (those driving 2.5+k/mth) better get now...

If anyone needs a diesel (those driving 2.5+k/mth) better get now... New Megane Sedan is expected to incur $10K surcharge per this table. Still a good buy I reckon. If anyone needs a diesel (those driving 2.5+k/mth) better get now... just to elaborate on how the change in tax will affects these cars. hope i didnt get my sum wrong. on surface, it might make sense that you should buy now before the price shoots up later. on the other hand, AD will not bring in such cars since it is going to cost more than most of their competitors. the fact that they are bringing them now is precisely due to tax rebate making them competitive. so you will be owning a model that is most certain to be obsoleted or AD would be bringing other models. maybe it is still a good buy, i really also unsure. ↡ Advertisement
