09 and 10 years 2.9 PDK are available, but you have to be a vulture for it.. Lots of people on the side lines. The newer Porsches, due to the tiered Omv tax, are just more taxes paid to the government, without gain in any function/specs.

Check out Porsche owners club singapore

thanks, won't be springing for >$200K car anytime soon,

so guess will have to wait at least a few more years ...

drove my other option: MX-5, but really no attraction to it compared to Boxster.

but may not be fair comparison since was only a short test drive.

Alamak, you ah!

Haha, I don't deserve a Rolex! [laugh]

But consider that if I had wanted to wear my Sub in to work, I would need to waste at least 3 minutes syncing it to the time (OCD, remember?), which would've made me late - then I have to keep wearing it every day as my OCD got worse and worse because I could literally see it losing a few seconds every week.

In contrast, all I had to do was pull my trusty Casio off the desk and wear it. I synced it on the way to work by sticking my hand out the window at a traffic light, now the time is absolutely exact. Damn efficient siah. :D

All told, I prefer a watch that's a slave to me rather than one that makes me its slave. It's just a watch after all. To me, they're still tools, even if they're Rolex or PP. Casio is just a better tool. :D

Luckily I don't feel that way about cars - but then I actually get real pleasure from driving nice cars. I don't feel the same thrill with watches.

OK, enough digression, tune back to FM98.7...er...Boxster 987.

You could check out the S2000.

Quite a few AP2s available... The thing about Japanese roadsters is the poor noise insulation... Even the Boxster is not much better.

Perhaps a Cayman can be better insulated

You can also checkout the 2 Series convertible, less than 200k, droptop, rear drive, turbocharged to the boot

yeah, MX-5's engine drones even at low revs with the top up.

coming from a pretty-okay-insulated sedan, the fun-factor of the car must really be high enough to entice me to suffer the droning.

thanks, already read it last night and is mainly paper spec-comparison.

wat i'm looking for is the very direct steering-feel of the Boxster,

which i don't feel in the quite light-steering of the MX-5; i think steer with just thumb and finger oso can.

ie, a car which u'll feel like going for a drive to nowhere...

Well, you could look at the Mazda 3 thread.. Everyone's complaining its a noisy car, even with a perm roof.

Honesty, if you are looking at luxury topless drive on a budget, go look at the 2 series cabrio. I already find that soft top noisy, though reviews say it's good.

Can't expect more less a phantom drop head coupe.

If you can wait another couple of years, there is a Hardtop version of the Miata coming out

Boxster prior to 981 is using hydraulic system whereby MX5 is using Electric.

Electric is always like that.  I don't like it also.

My Mini is also on Electric & too light (heavier than usual Japan Power Steering ) for my liking.  Since i change tyre to PSS, it is the steering feel l like now.

I have a feeling that you have decided to buy Boxster.  Go & get it.

I also luv a manual Gayman.

Brother, it is totally unfair to pit the Miata against the Boxster.

Just becos they both are convertibles is not a good enough reason

Dont waste time, join the brotherhood already. Wah lau

Dude, no offence, but that is not a reason not to buy what your heart desires.

We're only given a limited, yet unknown time on this very average rock that orbits a very average star in a minor spiral arm of a very average galaxy.

During that time, we have to try to maximise our happiness without encroaching on that of others wherever possible.

Denying yourself a nice car just because of what some green-eyed arseholes might think is not the way to achieve that.

I learned a long time ago that the best way to go through life is with your own moral compass. Basically disregard the opinions and views of 99.999% of idiots out there. Only treasure a few - your closest family and at most a few very select friends who've earned your trust.

Just my two cents'. Apologise for going all pseudo-philosophical.

@eyke how? Buy or not?

Quick join the Porsche brotherhood, i give you a nice present if you join.

thanks for the thought but decided to avoid the IMS era of Boxsters, thus will have to wait a few years till the post-IMS era Boxsters fall into my budget-range.

Hi, Heng here. Sorry to hijack this thread. I love Porsche car and I'm seriously considering a COE-car Boxster. Currently, there are a few such cars (year 00 and 01) for sale. May I humbly ask how and where should I get someone or workshop to help me inspect the car I wanted? I am aware of some of the problems such as IMS failure and I'm willingly to risk it. I believe with a good pre-buy thorough checks and spend a bit on replacing the required parts, it should last for at least a few years.

If not, my next option is to camp in sgcarmart and wait patiently for Boxster cars of Year 05 or 06 with renew COE. Currently, there are none now sadly.

Lastly, there is a new sale listing of Porsche Cayenne which is so cheap. Am I interpreting it wrongly or there is a catch?

Yes there is a catch if you are not aware of imported used cars. Dereg before 19dec2016 then you get your PARF back. After that there is no PARF. But of course you can drive till Coe expiry in 2019. But you will only get body value then. Assuming zero body then it's 80k over the next 4 years or so.

Thank you very much. I went to research abit on 'imported used car' and yup, if it is too good to be true, it usually is.

Do you think Flat 6 - AT will help to inspect the Boxster i wanted to buy?
