In the old days I always hear add curry powder to radiator to stop a leak.

I imagine you just get curry soup in the radiator.

One that works is break down in the middle of nowhere ask gf to take off her pantyhose.

Use it as emergency fan belt.

But don't need to repair so fast lah.

Can repair after finish.

Not add to the fuel tank for more powderful combustion meh?

Cars behind better not have windows wind down...unless a curry lover...😁

Premixed coolant ?
I had microsopic leaks before between the seams of the radiator top and coolant fins - different material and use of water for mixing with coolant.
This kind of fault a bit hard to locate.
I noticed my coolant system got issue because of the coolant temp keep rising on the scangauge device.

this coolant need to mix with water 1:1 before use

the choice of material, in this case, plastic, made it a consumable part

it happened on her previous car too, at 140,000km

current car is 101,000km now

last car coolant was blue colour, it dripped on to the heatshield of the exhaust manifold, that distinctive smell lead me to it 😁

the location of the pipes was easily accessible on the previous car, I replaced it at home. The plastic coolant pipe of the current car buried deep under the intake manifolds, got to take out airbox, ECU, intake manifolds, throttle body before I can reach the pipe, I will leave it to the workshop 😁

the plastic pipe become brittle after boiled in the coolant for 140,000km, it was so crispy and crushed like love letter

Conti cars' plastic all CMI. Designed to fail.

Many cars ago I replaced a leaking plastic elbow with a brass one.

German car runs at either 90 deg (NA) or 120 deg (turbo) water temperature.

Hard NOT to have failed plastic at that temperature.

IMHO.
In my case, the workshop never use deionized or distilled water.
Yeah, plastic is another issue.

Nowadays most coolant should be pre-mixed already?

I know my toyota super long life coolant comes ready to pour, no adding of water.

This is intentional to prevent kuku bird from cocking up the mixing process or using bad liquid

aiyah... typical conti problem. always oil leak coolant leak. bloody germans and french cannot get their act together after all these decades. lousy toyota wish, vios.... same radiator, coolant house and expansion tank for 10years.

Will Toyota have the same problem if it runs at 90 deg water temperature?

IMHOO.
Toyota is premix.  Before that, is mix.   My workshop like to use tap water.  After timing belt change,  radiator may have issue.

I understand the reasons behind both 😁

- mix 1:1 before use, save 50% of the shipping weight and storage space, it is dumb to ship and store water

- pre-mixed, like mentioned by tOyOta, it saves the engine from kuku people mixing it with the wrong water or ratio

IMHO.
At workshop, if premixed, can know exactly how much coolant is used and compare with specification.
If coolant mix with water,  wrong also difficult to know.

I noticed the coolant level of my wife's car is dropping slowly since a few months ago

at the rate of around 500ml per 10,000km, that is not normal but not a big leak too, not enough to trigger the low coolant level warning in 10,000km

I also couldn't find any dried up coolant traces on the engine and the engine compartment during my routine checks

today I took out my borescope to check areas that I cannot see from outside

found some dried up coolant traces on the seam of the plastic coolant pipe under the intake manifolds 😑

farking plastic hoses as usual in conti cars, please change to aftermarket metal parts if available, this will save you a lot of headache in the long run.

Got mention raw or soft boiled or hard boiled...? 😁

It depends on driver.

If they like it raw, go raw.

If they like it soft go soft.

If people like it hard go hard.

Plastic save cost.

For manufacturer not owner.

That plastic part from dealer can be $200.

It will crack and they will make money on after market parts.
