When I turn my key to start the car, I cannot start it and there is no engine cracnk sound. Lights and car radio are functioning normally at the "on" position. I sent my car to my workshop and they suspected that it is the starter motor. They serviced the starter motor. and all works well until this morning... Same issue that when I crank the car, no engine crank sound and car don't want to start.I had to turn a second time and the car is alive. This time round, my engine check light came on. After few minutes, I crank again, the ECL disappears. Any advice on what to check? Could be a battery problem. When is the last time you change your battery? ↡ Advertisement

Time for a change but I assume since all lights and electronics are working fine, the car battery is good. As for the starter motor, I was told that it was serviced... How to verify, I also do not know. Maybe take out, test solenoid and put back? Haha.... Other than battery? Any other possibilites? I ruled out spark plug and igintion coil as the car runs well and when key is turned, only no crank sound... So when starting the car, it has not reached the stage of drawing fuel to combust... Sianz... No money to change car too...

Canlee Clutched October 20, 2015 Share October 20, 2015 Went down to check on car battery and it was replaced last April. So it is 1.5 years and it should be nearing its life... To try and troubleshoot this issue, I think I will change the battery first. Where can I get a reasonable BOSCH Battery- S4 series? Learning new stuff each day man.... ElisaGrace February 27, 2016 Share February 27, 2016 Hi Pirate, -Check the battery connections are tight. A loose connection may prevent your car from starting, even when the lights, radio, etc., may seem to be working fine. -Starter motor. Some starter motors stick as the fail, so occasionally a good whack with a piece of wood is required (don't try this if you aren't sure which bit of metal is your starter motor, you might break something) -Fuses. Easy to check all your fuses in the fuse box with a multimeter. -Wiring. If all else checks out, you may need to carry out a full check on your wiring to see where the failure is. If the problem is still persists you can visit https://www.yourmechanic.com/services/car-is-not-starting-inspection
Hyruga 1st Gear February 28, 2016 Share February 28, 2016 Hi, Anyone can advise what is wrong with my car? Previously, engine will stall occassionally at traffic light or when I slowed down. I went to a mechanic and he cleaned up my trottle and said no problem le. I could feel conditions improved but then my engine still stall after a few days drive. The car also jerk at times when travelling at faster speed.

From your description it could be the MAF(mass airflow sensor). You may Google images of your car's MAF sensor see what it looks like. It's usually positioned right after your air intake airbox. If you are unsure dan get a mechanic to do it. Clean the MAF sensor using quick drying electrical contact cleaner. If you search in Youtube you will find ppl teaching you how to DIY. The quick drying electrical contact cleaner you can buy from any local hardware shop. If buying from the WD40 brand buy the one with the yellow cap and make sure it's for electrical components. Make sure you off everything in your car, close all the doors and boot before you unplug the MAF sensor. If it doesn't work dan it might be the air sensor or sometimes they call it the lambda sensor at the exhaust. The sensor might be faulty, replacement might be necessary. Usually if one or both these air sensors got issue the engine will keep stalling or jerking as if the engine is choking from lack of air. Good luck. Shibadog Turbocharged May 25, 2016 Share May 25, 2016 Had a bit of an issue a few days ago in my hotel carpark in Hatyai, Thailand. Wanted to drive out for dinner, but the car failed to start. Prior to this, had no issues at all. Battery was 11mths old, started motor also changed about 1yr ago. So I had previously experienced first hand the symptoms of a dying batt n also a dying starter motor. this time, the car did not crank, did not turn over. Also noticed that the car cam was off and the TPMS was sounding an alarm, so I switched it off. wondered if it could be alternator issue, as the car was only parked for abt 5hours or so before this, or if some wiring issue led to the battery being drained while parked. anyway, I also opened the bonnet to check the battery connections but couldn't feel any free play. in the morning, I went down early to the car to take out the jumper cable and ask for help from a passing vehicle to help jump the car. strangely, voltage display showed 12.4V and the car started after cranking for 3 sec. (I didn't check the voltage last night as the unit was off) HU was reset (lost radio stations and all other settings) the car now starts as normal. Seems like the battery connection was loose? ↡ Advertisement
