Tonyking 2nd Gear January 9, 2016 Share January 9, 2016 Yup, about same as mine. 36m17s = 2177s, divided by 5.5 = 396ml of petrol saved. So idle stop for half an hour only save less than $1 of petrol. Worth it? With petrol price low now, it might not seem a lot. But I guessed it's not a matter of worth it or not. Unless the start stop function harms the engine, if not can save a dollar is a dollar. It's a function that's come with the car. That's me cheap skate la. Haha... HHHuat 1st Gear January 9, 2016 Share January 9, 2016 (edited) To me it's more of reducing carbon footprint, not about the cost we save, the actual $ confirm cannot justify for anything, this is just a small step for us to leave something for our next generation. kmttan 4th Gear January 10, 2016 Share January 10, 2016 Just did my second tank of petrol topup. Dashboard showed 12.0km/l, but manual calculated FC is 11.5km/l (47.9L over 550km). I left my idling stop on most of the time for this tank of petrol, total time stop was 36m17s, total petrol saved 376ml, which translate to a fuel cost savings of $0.75 (assuming RON 95 price is $2/l, before station/card discount). Is it just me or does idling stop not save much petrol after all? May I know what is your "average speed" indicated on your dashboard? I only got 9KM/L on my first tank. Now, 1/4 into my 2nd tank also 9KM/L. Average speed is 17KM/H on dashboard. I very light footed, always ensure green zone on ECO mode.

I also cheap skate, but dun wanna to be penny wise, pound foolish (i.e. save a few dollars on petrol, but hundred of dollars replacing prematurely worn out parts e.g. starter motor, car battery). Then again, I also dunno whether the idling stop feature will really cause extra wear and tear though, so can't really make an informed decision... To me it's more of reducing carbon footprint, not about the cost we save, the actual $ confirm cannot justify for anything, this is just a small step for us to leave something for our next generation.I'm not as altruistic as you, just thinking in $ and ¢. But thinking out loud, if the system really cause extra wear and tear and requires early part replacement, will the carbon footprint from the petrol saved outweigh that from the production of said parts? Just a hypothetical question, to which I dun think we'll get an answer... May I know what is your "average speed" indicated on your dashboard? I only got 9KM/L on my first tank. Did not use ECO mode (except to check that it works) as I believe it's more fuel efficient to accelerate up to crusing speed faster. Btw, does your average speed reset when u reset the FC? Mine doesn't. Edited January 10, 2016 by carrot81
kmttan 4th Gear January 11, 2016 Share January 11, 2016 My 2 weeks old Serena could not be started on Sunday morning. Tow truck uncle came and jump started the car with a small USB battery. He checked and told me battery dying. Hence, towed the car back to TC. I also complained that star-stop, lane departure and collision warning not working. I also complained high fuel consumption. TC replaced the battery and start-stop is back. Service engineer said when battery is weak, start-stop and lane warning will not work. Hence, if you feel that start-stop frequency is falling, battery is dying. They tuned something and fuel efficiency seemed improved. From TC to home, PIE jammed all the way to Paya Lebar still able to get 13.5KM/L at average speed 27KM/h. However, I still have not heard lane departure and collision warning, despite many sudden e-brake along PIE. I am bringing the car back this Saturday....3rd time. Saw a black Serena SKX72xx along ECP this morning at 7.15am, second time already. First time at TC warehouse. Carrot81, to reset average speed, reset FC first, then press and hold again to reset ave speed.

Did the TC engineer say why the battery failed? And thanks for the tip on resetting ave speed! Will try it out when I reset FC next time. :)
kmttan 4th Gear January 12, 2016 Share January 12, 2016 Sorry to hear about your problem. I assume that the small battery was replaced? Did the TC engineer say why the battery failed? And thanks for the tip on resetting ave speed! Will try it out when I reset FC next time. :) The explanation for the battery was that, while it is new, the car has been sitting around for 6 months, and hence the battery cell dried up! I didn't question further ... Need some advise: On Lane departure, my SE told me that 2 engineers verified it was working. This morning, when I was traveling in a middle lane with 2 dotted lines on my side. I drifted to my left and I heard the warning. Then, i tried to drift to the right but no sound. After that one incident, no more lane warning. May I know from the bro here under what situations have you heard the lane departure warning? On collision warning, my SE told me that it cannot be tested and the car in front must be stationary. May I know under what situations have you heard the collision detection warning? Thanks in advance.

Thanks in advance. Hi, Sorry about your car. The lane departure warning is actually very sensitive. if you drift left and it beeps, it will not beep when it drift right as to the car you have keep the car in its lane. actually dont have to deliberate try, just find a place where there is no car on the next lane and just switch lane without signaling. the LDS should beep. As for the collision warning. it depends on the car speed and the sudden brake of the car in front. the speed doesnt have to be fast. as ling as the car sense that the vehicle in front has slowed down to a stop, and your car is still moving at a speed towards it that will cause a collision, it will have the beep beep beep sound. but i have once made an E brake and it didnt beep too. wah sitting around for 6 months?? then everyone of us must look for signal of battery failure after 6 months ? btw all here, couldn't remember. of the battery died within a year, is there a discount from TC? Battery 1st yr replace for free, 2nd yr 50% discount, 3rd yr 25% discount. For collision warning, my experience is that the front car need not be stationary, nor even slowing down, the warning will go off as long as you approach at a speed too fast and too close to the car in front. I got the warning a few times when I approached the car in front too closely while changing lane / overtaking.

They should have spotted it when we do 1k servicing, so it's all bulls**t that during servicing, they do what 100points check, My anti collision alarm came out a few times already, always ganna those kuku suddenly cut into my lane and force me to jam brake. Or sudden stop on PIE, you wanna try see if it work, travel more on PIE.

primera38 1st Gear January 13, 2016 Share January 13, 2016 Thank you Bro Tony! I'm considering this car as well. It is a good car with safety feature and good amount of space. The truck release on the remote is useful, but I am glad it is not available as our parking spaces are clamp. It seems that the model that T8 bought in is Highway Star G model with auto truck door closure, plasma intelligent air con and head support for the middle row of seat. See this youtube video for the AEB on Serena in action. Not the best but it does help slow down and probably safe lives. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5NGJO4vhjhM

My Comfort model needs to slam down in order to close it tightly.
