I think it's referring to the rear boot door auto-lock (act as a central-locking function too). There's a small round button beside the boot opening (rectangular button) where you can lock the whole vehicle without you walking to either of the front doors to activate the central lock function, or using your remote keys.

That's all I knew of, any bros out there like to share on this too?

Actually it is as what Zavi said, the rear boot door when you gently place down will get suck in and lock it . this is the function. it cost close to 1000 SGD to install that module. not cheap.

Wow close to $1k, didn't realise a simple function can cost so much. Better don't anyhow slam it!

I have a few queries. Hope experts here can help.

Anyone knows the battery type for the keyless remote control?

There's a red button in front of the the lower part of driver seat. Think it's for the car alarm. How to use it?

After arming the alarm, does it takes a while for the alarm to sound if the car door is open by key?

Can only answer your forst question:

We are using CR 2025. I have spare with me in my bag. guessed it will be good for you to have it too.

Have to ask the expert to answer for the question on the car alarm.

I open up the key to dry after I send it to the washing machine to wash, I must say this remote control is "waterproof" , it is still working after I use the hair dryer to dry it and left it in the room for 24hours. Hahaaha

it's pretty easy to open, just take out the key, and you see there is a small grove, use a small screw driver to pry it open. I think the battery is CR2032, or CR2035.

I ask my SE before . Our ride does not come with a car alarm. You can just drive it without the need to deactivate any alarm. The key is to open the door only, you still need the remote control to start the car engine. This is just for in case your remote battery is really weak until cannot open the lock. But, if it is so weak , wonder can the car start the engine or not ? Not yet try this, so must wait maybe 2years later or find a weak battery to try.

There are also no key hole to insert the key to start engine.

As @HHHuat said, the Serena does not come with alarm by default. However, if u have added the alarm module on at TC, then there is a red button beneath the driver side dashboard to disable it when it is triggered. To disable, press the start button twice until the dashboard lights turn on, then press and hold the red button. It takes a while (~30s) for the alarm to arm after you lock the vehicle, but it will immediately sound when u open it (by key or by using the open door lever from inside the car). Hope this clarifies.

The strength of the remote battery should have nothing to do with starting the car engine, unless u mean that the car cannot detect u have the key with u when u press the start button. In which case, just place the remote on top or near ur start button and u can start engine as usual. Tested by removing the battery from my remote and doing so. I guess there is a RFID chip inside the remote that allows this.

Any idea if I can install the module separately? I have the Comfort Trim which does not have the "auto suck in" boot, and sometime got to open and close the boot door a few times to make sure it closes properly.

Did you install the alarm? How much is it? I also want to install one, maybe a GPS tracker too. Good for going up north.

This is really nice to know. I was planning to leave a battery and a screw driver in the car. Since you tested it works even without battery, we can now sleep in peace.

Mine is also Comfort and I also find slamming the back door disturbing. Firstly, the button makes it not easy to open. Secondly, the door is heavy. Thirdly, it is also loud to slam it. Fourthly, it is inconvenient. Several times, I only realized it after getting into the car. So, need to get out to slam it again. Hence, i think the auto-suck-in is a need. I'll check with TC if they can install this "sucker".

yes, install the alarm just yesterday. but I could not find the Red button that  carrot mentions. the alarm cost $210. I want the panic search button, getting senile these days , always forget where I park my car in those shopping mall carpark. the Tap brake to central lock all doors function I already have it with the OBD plug. did not take out the OBD, cause I want the hazard light turn on during emergency brake. so kind of glad the alarm and OBD did not crash.

for GPS tracker I thot you will need to subscribe to a monthly services. within Singapore is not exp. but going into Malaysia i think it is something like 20bucks monthly. cant really remember where I saw it before.

$210. I did the installation at TC Ubi. Some bros feedback that the Bukit Timah branch cannot install the alarm.

Please let me know the cost if the module can indeed be installed. Thanks!

Hello All,

New to this forum. I am comparing the New Toyota Sienta vs Nissan Serena.

How is the ride for Bros here with the New Serena?

With the COE trending down, it seems to be a good buy. I am driving Nissan Lafesta now and due to scrap mid Jul 2016...the very first car I drive for 10 years. Very nice MPV.

Happy Chinese New Year to ALL.

It seems that T8 stopped selling the comfort model.

That's a pity. I thought that the Comfort Trim is very value for money, for those who do not mind not having auto doors, fog lights & body kit.

Hi Kevin, welcome to the forum. I was also considering Sienta before deciding on Serena, space wise Serena beats Sienta hands down, though it's also more ex. I suppose it depends on whether you are planning to ferry 7 pax on a regular basis.

Drive wise the Serena is very comfortable and quiet, though I do not know how it compares with Sienta or Lafesta.

Hi all, I am considering Serena and Toyota Esquire. Fighting with my wife now over the choice, my wife voted for Serena as it looks gentle and pleasing, less fierce compare to Esquire, and is few thousand cheaper. I voted Esquire for the Alphard look, interior look more modern, and stylish, and got sunroof, the 3rd row in Esquire when folded up is pretty flush to the side.

What really force me to give in to my wife is that Esquire all sold by Pi, and so far not very good impression with Pi. The guy wanted me to put 20k deposit and wait for July shipment... I stood up and ran...

I might need to go and see and test drive Serena one more time, and this time need to take my time and fall in love with it. Honestly it is not love at first sight.

I was reading this forum and I am also very interested in the steering wheel audio control, as the current car I am driving has it and I love it.

Sharing a YouTube video I found, apparently, this audio shop is in KL.

My wife and I had the same concern too. Before Serene was available, we were looking at Totoya Triplets. We felt that Esquire and Voxy look too sporty and fierce. Noah was gentle. However, there were very few PIs (only one in Ubi) who had Noah. And, we don't feel comfortable with that PI. StepWGN looks nice and gentle too but the two PIs in Ubi had no case trust and we were not comfortable with the SE. Eventually, Serena won us over because the PI T8 is by Tan Chong and warranty is also by Tan Chong. The greatest thing about T8 is that, it lets you test drive before making the hundred of thousands dollars decision. Serena is responsive and quiet. I cannot comment on the triplets because I have not test drive them.

I would not say Serena looks nicer but it certainly has the gentle look. In addition, we do not need to headache whether to choose 8 or 7-seater because it comes with both. We "keep" the 8th seat when not needed. Most of the time, we use 7-seat configuration because walk-in is really comfortable. During Chinese new year when we need to fetch more persons, we activated the 8th seat to extend the two seats at the 2nd row. This flexibility is not an option with Triplets and StepWGN.

On the 3rd row folding, I like the triplets' one step folding feature. Serena needs 3 steps to fold and unfold. The fatter seat when folded up is probably due to thicker cushion. StepWGN's 3rd row can be kept under the floor board and provide the biggest boot space. However, it don't have the secret compartment to hide the umbrellas and stroller. No car is perfect and the 3rd row's disadvantage is not a major concern in daily usage. Furthermore, the space is still huge.

Considering serena over stepwgn. Question.... warranty by Tan Chong means must service at TC for first 60k? Asking as servicing at malaysia will be much cheaper. Even the rate published by TC malaysia is so much lower.

I agree with both comments earlier... Was considering choosing one of the triplets earlier...but Serena somehow met most of my requirements in terms of space, design, flexibility on seats arrangement, reasonable fuel consumption and reliable PI. Just make my booking few days ago together with my friend.
